Hyken 0 #1 February 23, 2004 Hey everybody, ive been on the forums just reading for about a month now and i decided to finally sign up ;)........im 17 years old and live in SE Texas.....i just got a job and im thinking I might use my hard earned money for skydiving lessons. And i only have a couple problems...lol........ im slightly afraid of heights.....no big deal really....just a brain thing that i can get over......but im afraid im gonna end up paying up......then get up there and wimp out........ also what do yall recommend that I do??? what type of lessons should i take..........from what i have read i understand there to be 2 types..........static line, and the other where you freefall with the teachers....or is that the same course???........also should i pay everything up front?.....my local skydiving place has a web site that shows the entire course can be taken for 1,150.....which is the 5 static line and the 10 freefalls.....if you dont do that its 269 for the ground lessons and the first jump then 95 each for the rest of them........ anyways, none of this might not even make any since or even form as a question but to simplify it all im kinda interested in skydiving and I do know what i need to do or if my local DZ even accepts minors... my alternative to skydiving is a dune buggy or fixing up my truck ;) :) ;)
flyangel2 2 #2 February 24, 2004 Quotealso what do yall recommend that I do??? what type of lessons should i take.......... You are going to get all kinds of answers for that one. I suggest heading out to the DZ that you want to do your training at, and talk with them. Then head to another nearby DZ and talk with them. IMO, it doesn't matter which method you decide on, so long as safety is the number one priority at the DZ that you'll be jumping at. Good luck and keep us posted. BTW, being 17 you may have to wait till your 18 years old. OH, and I'm afraid of heights too, but it's different when you have a rig on your back.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
Hyken 0 #3 February 24, 2004 thanks, unfortunetly also im not positive but i think that this DZ is the only one that i will be able to jump at......i cant find anymore local ones......its approx. 30 min. away from me.......we have a small airport here but they dont have skydiving (i dont think)

pccoder 0 #5 February 24, 2004 I think the USPA will allow 16 yo + to do solo and 18 years old and up for tandem. So, I would guess it's up to the DZ. As far as the price, for the money, paying in advance for the static lines and the AFF for around $1100 sounded really good. I paid $1300 up front just for 7 AFF jumps. piisfish 140 #6 February 24, 2004 don't know what your choice will be, but enjoy each second of it. Static Line can't be a bad choice, gives you one main thing to think about besides your exit, is flying your canopy. AFF teaches you first how to fly your body in the air. and after that you have the canopy ride.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
