Former President Bush to Skydive

DALLAS - Former President George Bush hasn't had enough air time yet. For his 80th birthday, he's planning his third skydiving feat since 1997 _ and fourth jump ever.

The ex-president also plans a party in College Station on June 12 (his birthday) and June 13 so friends and admirers can watch the next leap. Tickets will be sold, with prices beginning at $100 and the proceeds going to charity.

A Navy pilot during World War II, Bush made a jump at age 72, fulfilling a promise he made after bailing from a crippled plane during the military conflict. He'd vowed to skydive again just for fun.

In 1999, Bush marked his 75th birthday by jumping from an airplane.

"Clearly, after his first jump, I think he was hooked," Chris Needels, executive director of the U.S. Parachute Association and staff member on Bush's National Security Council, told The Dallas Morning News for Friday's editions.

Bush was decorated for heroism after his plane was shot down over the Pacific Ocean during World War II. That was also his first jump _ into the Pacific Ocean on Sept. 2, 1944, when he bailed out of his torpedo bomber after it was disabled by Japanese fire.

Needels said an 86-year-old member in his group has made 100 jumps a year.

As much as I don't like the guy's politics, I think it's great that anyone gets out and skydives - Bush included. Hell, if I picked my jumping friends for their politics - I wouldn't have any !

I just wonder why he doesn't buy a rig and get his A license - he'd always have 4 people ready for a load, if you don't mind his friends wearing black jumpsuits, sunglasses, and a wire in their ear...

I hereby volunteer to pack Geroge Bush's reserve - again

Todd Spillers already did a respect and repack a few months ago (yeah i know its out of date now) as the first step. They took the rig to the Bush Library for a press confrence, showing how it worked and such to all the worthless...I mean, the media.

Well, supposedly Barbara has stated that this IS his last jump, and well, I think when that women tells you something, you end up listening.

He's doing another AFF jump. The Golden Knights are the ones conduction the jump, SD Aggieland should be showing support as needed on the ground or what ever they need.

All the real details are still really up in the air, since the GKs haven't even had their planning meeting yet, which is set for another week or two.

Oh, the jump will take place at the Bush Library, which is on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, TX. What's really cool, is the retired Col. that runs the library is a jumper as well.B|

Yep, we are all excited for G. Bush, the Golden Knights, the facilities he will be at and the positive press for our sport.

G.Bush will be at Fort Bragg as the guest speaker in May for the dedication ceremonies of the new Golden Knight Complex. I'm hoping to attend to get to hear him speak again. I had the opportunity to hear him speak at the PIA Symposium where he told his story of his first jump (military bail out), and again hear him at the Golden Knights Reunion tell the story of his second jump (AFF). An excellent speaker.

And yes, he did buy his case of beer for his "Firsts."
