It's the landing area

A politician had a sign one time that said "It's the economy stupid." Trying to focus on the main issue.

There should be a sign that says, "It's the landing area stupid." That is what people do there. This is a surprise to some, but there are other people. It is not a one-person place. Doing stupid stuff there is dangerous to others.

During AFF (a while back), they taught me to stay upwind until I was ready to join the landing pattern. Then, use a "J" shaped pattern. Run downwind beside the landing area, turn 90 degrees, turn 90 degrees into the wind, prepare to land.

Personal gripes:

People who are doing spirals at 600 feet directly over the landing area.

People doing a side-to-side swinging motion to bleed off extra altitude because after 1000 jumps they suck at accuracy. The swinging motion causes others to have to dodge them, disrupting 4 or 5 people around/behind them.

i must agree, it makes me cringe when i see team hookitlow doing spirals, then toggle whipping it.

i must admit im sometimes guilty of the swinging motion thing when i do hopnpops, but thats why i get out low, so i can do that kinda shit.
when i go to full altitude i pull high and hang in brakes so i dont have to fight with anybody else.

If you fly an unpredictable landing pattern at Pitt Meadows, you will be encouraged to take your unpredictable pattern to another DZ.

I support multiple or divided landing areas. Sure, it scares the crap out of me when I see swoopers doing their thing, but that's just what they do. I think they should get to keep doing it (leaving any discussion of the risk to themselves to a different thread), just as long as they don't do it in the same airspace as "1k 3-leg" wusses like me.

Similarly, people like me flying more conservative patterns should not get in the way of those other guys (and gals).

Give me a big open field across the road and I will land there and walk back. Cool people can hook and swoop 10 feet from the packing area and I will see them on every other load (after I walk back and pack).
