nope I can afford more than $5.00, I'm just to cheap to pay more.
A good packer can do four pack jobs an hour easy, that's $20 an hour x eight hours $160 x 2 (sat/sun) = $320 a weekend. (and we all know packers that can handle a lot more than four an hour)
Not easy money at all put pretty good.
Good packers can make some get good tips.

I've never paid someone to pack my main. I like to know that I've packed it when I jump plus it takes me less than 5min to do it anyway.
Unless you have too pay for a packer (i.e. worker bee's that must be on the next load), your just a slacker. Slackers should be charged double.
what about those who can't pack due to knee surgery?

Well physical issues don't really qualify as being lazy now do they?
Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I rarely pay as it is... I can pack in about 3.5-4 minutes when in a rush and on average about 6 minutes... paying a packer 30-50$ an hour I think is plenty :):):)
when I am really lazy and tired Ill pay though.. I usually pay 6-8$ including tip for pack jobs anyways... I hated it when people didnt tip me, so I ALWAYS tip.. if I had a mal I wouldnt expect my money back either..jsut the price you pay...

Kris,
When I'm out in Perris in May, I'll show you some trick. Most times what is slowing you down is that the canopy is getting away from you. Us gals have to use more then just our pretty hands to pack with. I use my elbow, knee, and shin.

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
My main has been packed more by a packer then myself. It started off because I was busy editting video but that turned into laziness even for fun jumps. I figure I can afford it so why shouldn't I spread the wealth. Only seldom will I get a schwacker, but still nothing I couldn't handle. If it came down to it, then yes I would do it myself. Which happens enough to keep me current on it, but thats only if I have to bring it home. I don't like to show up to the dz needing a pack.
Edit: and to answer the original question...I won't pay more then $5 unless I have to.
Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze

thanks much! I can use all the hints I can get!
I pay $5 at Raeford, and take care of the packers in other ways as well.
I pay $7 at Eloy because I jump a 190.
I will tip the packers sometimes as well.
John
