sundevil777 102 #1 April 13, 2004 I believe this was done at Coolidge AZ in the mid 80's. It is hard to count, but I got 25. Does anyone have more knowledge of the details? They are hanging on a rope aft of the door, and a rope ladder hanging down from the door. Is there something that the FAA would find illegal about this? Looks like a lot of fun.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
vdschoor 0 #2 April 13, 2004 Ouch, can you say end of jumpsuit after that one? They must have been covered in oil! Very cool picture though Iwan
chuteless 1 #3 April 13, 2004 Imagine what it would be like to get your foot caught in the ropes, and hang there until the plane landed. Bill Cole D-
weegegirl 2 #4 April 13, 2004 That's really cool! We tried a 21way Hellfish dive out of a DC3 at Rantoul last year... I think we had maybe 4 floaters.
wingnut 0 #5 April 13, 2004 wow, have you ever floated an exit of a dc-3.... it's one hell of a prop blast coming of those engines.. hanging out the door on the dc-3 we have at the dz here is hard enough while trying to video tandems.... i think the most we have goten floatingis like 6 or 7 on the 6ft long 6 inch wide porch we have infront of the door.... the first guy out the door is normally the strongest to climb all the way forward and block the wind for the other floaters........i'll have to show our pilot that picture.. he will probly get a kickout of it..... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
jverley 1 #6 April 13, 2004 The story I heard about this photo is that when the owner was away, the jumpers removed the windows from the DC-3 so they could use the window hole as a hand hold to climb forward to the wing. Don't know if it is true, but a good story nonetheless.John Arizona Hiking Trails
sundevil777 102 #7 April 13, 2004 Isn't there an emergency door over the wing?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. jverley 1 #8 April 13, 2004 Nope. No emergency doors (it was built in 1943). I think one of the forward windows is an "emergency exit" but I doubt you could squeeze through one of those with a rig on.John Arizona Hiking Trails
WILDBILLAQR 0 #9 April 13, 2004 If you look closly, you'll see one person standing on the wing facing forward. That was "Thee Cris Knight", one of my AIF instructors. He was one hell of a guy. That pic is on the wall @ Bent Prop. Some of us were sitting at a table under thet pic when we got the call that he had bounced---------------------------------------------- "Thats not smoke, thats BUCKEYE!!" JohnRich 4 #10 April 13, 2004 Quote25 floaters on a DC-3! Wow! That reminds me of that photo in "Skies Call" with about a dozen people on the outside of a Twin Beech (attached). And where is that picture of Martin Caidin's WWII Junkers 52 with jumpers standing all over the wing?
councilman24 37 #11 April 13, 2004 Back in the "good ole days" people used to go out the exit window over the wing. Saw this a couple of times at Freak Brothers. The exit is bigger than the window and has the window in the middle.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
airgord 1 #12 April 13, 2004 That "twin Beech" is actually a Lockheed Model 12 or 14, the windshield is shaped different and the tailwheel sticks out more on the Beech, also the horzontal stablizer is not flush with the top of the cabin on a Beech. Fenders on the main gear. Smaller brother of the Loadstar.
