masher 1 #2 January 7, 2004 It could be a CReW rig. I've seen a few at York that could be described like that. They're just big toggles so that they're easier to grab.-- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I guess you haven't been around many CRWdogs? CRWdogs always seem have all sorts of handles, blocks, toggles, risers, and even mains sticking out of their H/C. Crazy? No its not crazy, no its not "really" dangerous it just has to last till exit and deployment. You'll also find it funny when you see some CRWdog with half a dozen hookknifes attached at various places on his body/gear... If you can't reach one you should be able to reach one of the others. riggerrob 643 #5 January 7, 2004 Yup, it's ugly, but that's CReW for you. Seriously, several manufacturers - including Rigging Innovations - have designed specialized CReW rigs with extra wide riser covers to hide all those extra handles and blocks and dive loops, end .... chuckbrown 0 #6 January 7, 2004 Those are brake toggles that are designed to stay open so they can be reached immediately without looking for them. To tell the truth, it's pretty tame compared to some rigs I've been on loads with. Ah, there's nothing like the looks you get from freefallers when getting on a plane with canopy sticking out of your rig.
lazyfrog 0 #7 January 7, 2004 actually it looks nice compared to some CReW rigs I've seen... Can't wait to try...---------- Fumer tue, péter pue ------------- ourson #10, Mosquito Uno, CBT
dragon2 2 #8 January 7, 2004 I think this is from the CReW record jumps yes? Don't get that mag... Then it's either Henny Wiggers or John Verstegen, can't make out from the pics but recognize the rig & suit. Probably John from what I see him wearing on his head. ciel bleu, Saskia
dragon2 2 #9 January 7, 2004 When we were in Ampuria for the European Championships 2 years ago, I was sitting in the plane with Henny, John and the rest of our CReW team. A couple of local freeflyers were eying the rigs speculatively, wondering aloud if these yellow things would make good gripping handles for docks ciel bleu, Saskia
rigging65 0 #10 January 7, 2004 Ah, come on! That's not that bad! You should see half that crap that sticks out of my CReW rig...of course, a lot of it is canopy... But, as has been said, it just needs to get you out the door from a poised exit! Nothing finer than watching the expressions of the 100 jump wonder freeflyers as you walk out with a CRW rig on "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. faulknerwn 38 #12 January 7, 2004 What - you're not supposed to have toggles hanging out? Heck, you should see my rig - I try to keep at least a little bit of every color hanging out the outside. It really seems to scare the freefallers so its great fun! Heck - I know CRW teams who velcro their toggles to their main mud flaps so they can grab them faster for immediate steering... flyangel2 2 #13 January 7, 2004 I can't believe your profile says you have 600 plus jumps and you've never seen a CRW rig like that? flyangel2 2 #16 January 8, 2004 Never attend boogies? There is a whole big world of skydiving out there. rigging65 0 #17 January 8, 2004 CReW is a great discipline. It will help you with your canopy control, landing accuracy and confidence. I used to teach at least two CReW camps a year almost purely as canopy control-type camps. People are always so scared about docking canopies together...but when you explain to them that they are basically just shooting accuracy on a target (above them) they do just fine. If you've never done it, I would highly recommend you find someone with some experience and give it a shot. It's well worth the time, and you'll be a better canopy pilot as a result. FWIW, try and find a camp with a 'theory' section to it. Some classroom time really helps sink the ideas in! "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. flyangel2 2 #18 January 8, 2004 Once a month the Wild Humans team does a CRW workshop for the newbies. Dougjumper 0 #19 January 9, 2004 No Kidding I really would like to learn more about CRW. I met the Guy that runs DZ Gear back in 2000 at Quicny..He was Cool as hell nice guy. I wanted to try some CRW out but all the rigs were taken...Lot of CRW folks were having some good times..Maybe someday..somehow..someway.. Neat Stuff.. If you can fly a canopy then you can land a lightning standing up, buy you do have to fly it in. I only have 40 CRW jumps and I run out my landings because I double front or carve in on the landing."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
