bigG 0 #1 April 11, 2004 I was reading this thread on the Incidents Forum and came upon this interesting post. Quote I was performing at an air show this past summer when I made friends with a Russian aerobatic pilot that was also an avid skydiver. He was asking me about gear and accessories, in particular goggles. He said that was something his dropzone asked him to get while in the states. Two or three pair of 'nice' US goggles equals about a months wages in his region. We went to the local DZ where he bought what little he could afford... Then as an afterthought, I kind of went through our team equipment and made up a little 'care package' consisting of a dozen or so old Kroop goggles, rubber bands, hook knives, tack cord, rigging supplies, couple old ProTecs... When I gave him the box of 'junk' you would have thought he had won the lottery! I'm wondering if as a group, we Dot Commers might be able to coordinate some kind of donation system that might assist our equally passionate but less fortunate brothers and sisters... The junk laying in your closet might make the sport a bit easier, fun and safer for a fellow Skydiver. IMO thats a dam good idea and may be something could be done about this. Well..I looked in my gear bag and found that I have a spare pair of gloves, goggles and other bits & bobs which I dont really use anymore. I am sure a lot of us have spare stuff we dont use anymore.. Well this might be a good way to put them to use and at the same time helping out our other Skydiving brothers & sisters. What do you all think? G. airtwardo 7 #2 April 15, 2004 That was my post, and I thank you for posting it here... I've been contacted by a couple of different people concerning this idea, most though not all were positive and in favor of helping out. Anyone interested in putting their extras to use, PM me and I'll start an inventory list... I've been making some inquires and doing some background research... and I honestly believe I may have a way to get it to those who might put it to use in the spirit we intend. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
bigG 0 #3 April 15, 2004 Just an idea... May be DZ.COM or some Drop Zone or may be the USPA (a BIG may be here!) want to coordinate this effort and can pick a beneficiary Drop Zone (or group of people) lets say every 6 months or annually. If any one has any better ideas...then lets hear them.. G.
