SkyDiveChica 0 #1 April 19, 2004 ok, as most of you know, i am still young, but i really want to work towards eventually becoming a Tandem Instructor! I'm not sure what I have to do to qualify for that... what kinda course i have to take. Would I be better off with doing the AFF course, or finding something else? Is there something else? I hope i have made myself clear, lol? Thanks heaps, God Bless, Mel P.S. I live in NZ, so we might not have the resources you guys have, lol.I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me....so Bring it on!!!!!! bodypilot1 0 #3 April 19, 2004 Well from the looks of your profile you must have just started skydiving? I suggest having some fun, then go get your tandem rating? Be safe.www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
slotperfect 7 #4 April 19, 2004 What a great goal! Right now you're all about the numbers, but be sure to get quality while you're racking up the quantity. The requirements for the manufacturer's rating (first step) will vary slightly, so you need to decide which system you want to get rated on. This may be driven by which DZ you will want to work at. I suggest you pick a tandem rig type and go to that manufacturer's website to get the specific prereq's. You will also want to read the rating requirements for NZ's equivalent to our USPA and work on those simultaneously. Learning to pack tandems will get you familiar with them, and make you a little cash for jump tickets. Pick up a strength training regimen and get yourself strong, especially your upper body, especially shoulders. AggieDave has a good workout posted HERE Specific skill sets that will help you when you get the required experience: -knowledge of how gear works and how to inspect another jumper -spatial awareness on exit (which way is up during a tumble) -canopy accuracy . . . shooting each approach to land where you want to -continuing to fly the canopy until it is on the ground . . . keeping your wings level and your canopy pointed into the wind Good luck and, of course, keep us posted! Well judging by your other posts, yes, going through AFF would be a good first step. Also, tandem manufacturers will likely want to wait till you're 18 before they give you a rating. But that works out perfect if you start now because the couple years you've got till you reach that milestone will a) give you time to get the required 500 jumps in and b) count towards the minimum years-in-sport the mfg's want to see. flyhy 0 #6 April 20, 2004 You need 1000 jumps in NZ (or an overseas rating and 750 jumps.. or something like that..) But PLEASE don't kill your funjumping just to get numbers! It's good to have a job you like but after a while any job is just a job! Where abouts in NZ do you jump??
Raistlin 0 #7 April 20, 2004 Must a Tandem rating always be a job? I'd like to get one just to introduce the people I like to the sport I love...
