SkydiveNFlorida 0 #26 April 28, 2004 Well, I have this horrible habit of buying things I want as presents for others. So, I was casually dating a guy, it was going to be his b-day soon, and I thought it'd be fun to skydive. Well, I booked it, soon broke up with him, and went anyhow. And, here I am Then there was that time when I was 12 and jumped from my 2-story window... I think that was just defiance, though (grounding kids... better hope they aren't the daredevil type) Angela.
Vertifly 0 #27 April 28, 2004 I grew up in Lakewood, NJ during grammar school. Perhaps you can remember the DZ there if you've been around long enough. I used to watch the first ram-airs coming down in the mid 70's. While in the Marines, a room-mate of mine went out for a static line - somewhere on the east coast of N.C.. I also watch some people land under Coke (or Pepsi) canopies during an airshow at Cherry Point, NC. Then someone who I know at work had a pic of himself during a static line exit. I thought it was sooooooo cool.
freeasabird 0 #28 April 28, 2004 QuoteAS far back as I can remember. I learned an umbrella doesn't slow you down when you jump off your roof (6 or 7 years old) Quote Likewise...but I was trying to use bed sheets as canopies at around 7 or 8 years old. I did, however, get a lot of practice with my PLF's back then.-----
 Frenchy68 0 #29 April 28, 2004 2 years ago. I always heard of skydiving, but never thought of it as something I could do. Then last summer a couple of my friends went and did tandems. I didn't have the money or really the desire to go at the time. One of my friends got a video and after watching it, I thought it looked really awesome. The next weekend I went with one of my other friends to the dropzone and watched her do her second tandem jump. I was still kinda iffy about doing it, but after watching everybody land and realized that people actually lived after landing I wanted to jump! After that I made reservations to do a tandem the next weekend and I got hooked! My first tandem was back in September and I wasn't able to get back in the air until a couple of weeks ago. I just graduated AFF and I love it!I'm so funny I crack my head open! I remember asking my grandmother what the thing that held them up was called at a McDonalds in Athens, GA. Being 3 or 4, it took me awhile to explain myself. We got it sorted out eventually. All I could think about was how pleasant and quiet it would be under canopy. So I grew up and joined the Army eventually. It was awfully quiet and pleasant. Shortly after landing I looked up and saw a lot of chutes in the air and though to myself I would love to give that a go someday. It was the state champs or something from memory, or just a big boogie not really sure. Got some friends together and did a weekend course a few months later. My parents knew they couldnt stop me from doing it and my flight instructor thought I was crazy!! PS- I have lost two friends to skydiving and around 10 to flying. Gotta love that "perfectly good aircraft" crap! BSBD! -Mark. "A Scar is just a Tattoo with a story!!!"
