6 months, 4 jumps, and 2 cases later!!

Recommended Posts

As a lot of you know its been 6+ months since my last jump. Well I flew into Hawaii yesterday and after a day in a hotel made it out to the DZ.

The winds today where eratic and strong because we are on the tail end of a storm system. Because of this the S&TA didn't want to let me jump. But after a lot of begging and convincing him I have jumped in worse and never not stood up a landing he reluctantly alowed me to make my recurency jump. This was my first trip to altitude in a turbine(BEER), I cant believe how fast it was!! The whole trip up my instructor was saying "Dont scare me","do a couple of turns and show me you can be stable"
So after a nice stable dive and some 360's Hes got the biggest smile I've ever saw. He gives me a signal to do a back flip, then a front flip, both pulled off with out a hitch. Then we both start flying around each other because where only at 9,000 with nothing else planed. Great view up here on the North Shore.
So I pull, refamilerize my self with front riser turns then join the pattern. Stand up the landing right in front of manifest where my instructor greets me with a high five and a "Great Job".
And to top off this awesome day I did 3 more jumps after that including my first (Beer) 7-way tracking dive where I stayed right behind the lead. Its so cool to look left and right and see people tracking togeather.
On my third jump I told the guy I was jumping with to watch out for a bad off heading opening, because I packed in a hurry. Well at least I called it. My Sabre opened then spun up 3 times;)
Great day great people, I think im going to stay here and not go back to Korea(AWOL):)

Not checking for spelling- gota go drink more beers!!

I was supposed to go there for a job last year and checked out the DZ via ph. They said they normally jumped in the AM cause the winds kicked up in the afternoon. Cool DZ or what? Hope to jump there soon. The locals all cool too?

Reguarding the winds on a regular day. I can't say. All day today they where strong because of the storm system. Im staying on the DZ in a tent even thoug the gates close at 7pm. The theft is high on the North Shore so Id rather be locked whithin the airport. I did extensive searches about theis DZ's online and still didnt realize they had a tunnel. $40 for 3min of tunnel time. And it was never full, they where wandering around looking for people to fly in it. Both DZ's have a King Air, pluse several Cessna's.(182,208's) But you are right reguarding the closing time. If there are no more tandems they may do one more load of fun jumpers befrore shutting down. Today that took us out to 2pm, we did an all fun jumper load on the king air, then no one would go home so they sent up another.( I was there pushing both of them) But that was it. I've herd they jump until sunset only when they have a get-togeater planned. When they know up-jumpers will be there late. Good news* they open at 8am on weekdays and normaly have enough people to send up the King Air because of people on vacation that want to jump. Its 8pm hare and Im already manifested on the first load for 8am monday.

Its no Eloy, but its cool...

Whoa.. The most damage I've done skydiving is skining my knuckles pulling on lines under canopy.

But seriously *"Lesson Learned"*
I'm learning a ton from guys that have ben doing RW since the 70's, plus I may just go hit up the wind tunnel in the next couple of days.

oh, this is also worth posting. today after a botched 4 way exit from the 182 with a trio of Marines that only had 20 some jumps each, I tracked away and had 8,500-9,000 feet to play with. I was wearing a "Tony" RW suit but decided to try my first sit. It was surprisingly easy to get into a sit but after a few seconds my feet would fly up putting me into a backflip. I tryed it a few extra times with my hands more beind me rather than to the side but the wind kept cathing my feet and throwing them up. The guys on the ground said it was the booties, so tomorrow im going to give it a try with shorts and sandals.
