cvfd1399 0 #1 May 23, 2004 I owe more beer than I can fit into the bed of my truck! Jump 11, 2 way with a floaty bastard to work on fall rate, pull at 4k bam! line twists(FIRST). Ok I kick out of them think to myself if that is all line twists are about I got that. Go to release brakes and the right brake line must have gotten tired and went home B/C it the toggle came off in my hand along with 3 feet of line. I said self this is the second time this has happened(jump 9) and last time it sucked. Canopy not in need of chopping. So at 2.8k I zipped the ripcord into my jump suit and warmed up for the rear riser workout. I staged near final about 200 yards from the LZ not wanting to do a full pattern and wear my self out noticed I was not getting hardly any penetration and started final at 1000k. Did about 5 rear riser flares and thought this is going to be better than last time. Came in about 75 yds from flag and rear riser flared the shit out of it and did a PLF. Felt like I fell off the couch, NICE! I am not worried about rear riser landings any more. Looked at my neptune I slowed myself down 17 miles an hour! woo hoo I went from 149 mph to 132 mph. Ok so I got back at the dz and took the busted canopy off the student gear and put my new huge ass camouflage canopy on their gear and went and jumped it for the first time(FIRST). 2 way with not so floaty bastard and canopy deployed so soft I teared up. This thing turns like a race car 2'' toggle pull and it starts turns, not like the other one that required a foot in the toggle to get it to turn. Flare was like mmmmmmm that is what a flare is. The student canopy likes to take it's time even thought they are the same type and size, mine is new. So it was a line twist, new canopy, first post aff coach jump, second rear riser flare(forgot to buy the first time), first personal add bought. CANT WAIT TO BE THERE NEXT WEEKEND!!!!! ChrisL 2 #2 May 23, 2004 I dont drink so I never do anything for the first time. I always start at number 2. Any time something happens that has not happened previously I say "Damn, thats the second time thats happened to me!" __ My mighty steed
Dougiefresh 0 #4 May 23, 2004 You don't have to drink the beer, just buy it! We'll take care of the rest... Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
atsaubrey 0 #5 May 23, 2004 Corona por favor! Damn man you bust more canopies than anyone I know. I think Igo should retire that canopy. I guess if it were me (i'm sure you were thinking the same thing) and after what happened last time, it would have been chop chop. Awesome hearing you kept your head and didn't hurt your bottom this time."GOT LEAD?"
cvfd1399 0 #6 May 23, 2004 Yea well there were some ''Problems" found with that canopy especially the slider that could have been found with a routine check at pack time. That is another story. The line was 2 jumps new and already fuzzy burned. The chop chop thing was considered at 2.8k. I looked down at the ground(damn it looked close), looked up at the canopy and said to myself it's not worth it to chop a perfectly good flying canopy just to try and hope the reserve works so I can have toggles to land with. PLF saved my bottom from another month of tailbone pain....or maybe it was the fact that I landed in the grass instead of the taxiway this time lol
