Tunnel tricks

Recommended Posts

So last Friday, Amy and I headed up to the tunnel for Kristy's "tunnel tricks" camp. It was a non-serious session of learning to fool around in the tunnel - how to walk up the walls, how to booty fly, how to walk around in the tunnel, launch formations from the net and land on it again, and how to launch formations from the doors. Drills ranged from "chase Kristy around the tunnel" to doing the seaweed to launching exits and exiting as fast as possible. There were a lot of bruises afterwards, but it was great fun, and no pressure over points or form. We tried to flash Celeste to get more time, but alas, it only lasted an hour.

Now I can look like I know what I'm doing in the tunnel! That should fool some people.

Sounds like fun! I love playing around in the tunnel doing tunnel specific things (like playing on the net / walls.) One of my most recent tunnel tricks that I've done (that I thought I was being original with but found out people have done it :() is doing a "Matrix style" fight scene in there. It came out really cool with us doing flips and using the walls. I'll see if I can get the video onto my computer as I think it definitely qualifies as "tunnel tricks" :)
Glad you had fun in there Bill :)

Yeah, I missed that camp, but got in earlier in the day. In my 15+ minutes I did 3 walking sessions. Scott taught me the seaweed, forward movement, backward, sideways, and some stability stuff. Kinda neat, actually. The remainder was spent with Erin trying to improve my right hand 360s. :P Our vertical stuff was awesome! Since it was in the late afternoon, the warm air felt like it came from a blowdryer! You guys signed up for the dizzy.com sessions?

Seaweed? Would that be like standing in the tunnel and allowing your arms to flail over your head? I've not heard that term before.

Arms and upper body moving forward and back without actually having the rest of your body mov around the tunnel. It's one of the excercises used when learning to walk around the tunnel.

I remember one of my teammates learning to walk around in the tunnel a couple or three years ago. Gary Beyer was teaching him, and they were walking around like gorillas, half crouched, arms up, hands out to the sides, swaying back-n-forth. Occasionally, they'd scratch themselves. I was doubled up with laughter.

In the tunnel, there is no pride, and no shame.

How awesome! I learned how to do all that stuff in the tunnel with a FF suit, but I hear that it's different with the booties on an RW suit. Maybe when I can scrape up some more tunnel $$$, I can take one of those "tunnel trick" camps. I really want to be able to bootie fly well. :)
Btw, on Sunday towards the end of one of our 4-ways, one of our blocked moves went a little weird on/after the third go around...I think. Erin then let go of me and began to bootie fly to my right. I look to my left, and Marie is attempting to bootie fly, too. Directly in front of me, Jonathon began to sit...WTF? I was lmao...as I tracked away...

Indeed, it always fun demonstrating something and smashing into the wall :D

There's a lot more pressure on your feet since there's way more surface area down there. If I'm walking on the net a lot with my bootie suit on I'll usually flip off the booties.

Bootie flying is great - it's a lot of fun and since you dearch your back it's very relaxing after flying on your belly.

I'll be in the tunnel Sat and Sun at 3pm.

Cool...I actually just found that out, yesterday! After Dom placed me and gave me my times, I PMed him to ask who was going in to the tunnel at the same time as me for my sessions. He then let me know that he, GFD, Vdshoor, Genoyamamoto, you and Amy would be there on Sunday. Geez...I am by FAR the least experienced flyer (well, besides Geno, I think), but I am looking forward to watching you all fly in there. :)

Dogpile on Rosa!

Last night I took a load of whuffos up to the tunnel. Not only did they get to try it for the first time (and provide us with endless amusement) but they also ended up paying for my time! They got 48 minutes, I got 36. I'll have to do this more often.
