skygirl1 1 #1 January 29, 2004 ...this may seem like a crazy question....I am on IAF 5.....and have done 90 degree turns in the air....but when I get on the ground I don't understand how I did it?? Lets say I am doing a 90 left turn...I look to the left,-----does my left shoulder drop and my right shoulder lift?? skygirl1" Mean people SUCK!" AggieDave 6 #2 January 29, 2004 There are a good handful of ways to teach turns. Each school teaches it a little different, so, your best bet is to talk to your instructors. Here's what I teach for arm turns: when flying in your basic position (aka box man, 90deg arms, arch, etc), if you want to turn right, drop your arm (using the shoulder) about 45deg. That will give you a right turn. Like I said, though, that is just how I and how the instructors @ SD Aggieland teach turns, your DZ may not teach them that way, so please please please ask your instructors. It would be worst for you to learn a way that has to be untaught, by reading it from folks here, then it would be to just go ask your instructors.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #4 January 29, 2004 QuoteYes, look left then lower the left arm as you raise the right one That's what I was talking about. Jumpervali, you have a LOT more jumps then I do and a LOT more experience then I do, but her DZ may not teach turns that way. That's why I very highly suggested for her to talk to her instructors. For instance, at my DZ we teach arm turns the same way that Skydive U teaches turn (just without the leg input at first). Some DZs teach "twist" turns like what you described, some still teach banana turns, etc. Personally, I would really hate to teach a student from another DZ something via the internet that goes against what their DZ is teaching. That could create a learning block for the student.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
