DZ USPA MEMBERSHIP

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Just a trivial question. Is it a big deal if an American dz is not a uspa member? I'd guess they all adhere to uspa rules being in America, just wondered if this was a typo, or if there was any more to it?

Thanks very much, and fantastic site I must say. Been visiting for ages and still finding new stuff on here all the time!

Blue skies!

It is and it isn't. Politcally, it depends on your views as to if the USPA GM program is good or bad.

The DZs I've looked into that are not USPA GM DZs are generally pretty good DZs with good student programs, although that, as well as USPA DZs, depends on the individual DZ.

Hmmm, the opinion split is pretty much between skydivers and the 'if it's good for business, it good for skydiving' types.

hey, look, I dont know jack. but.

From what I have seen at the 7 places I have jumped, 4 USPA, 3 non USPA, i think that being a USPA dropzone just ensures the safety, but not always.

I have seen great USPA DZ's, and one thats not so great, but it is super safe. I have seen great and safe non USPA DZ's, but also very unsafe ones.

But I will travel and see more, and don't know much at this point.

Would you all agree?

PS: How does USPA enfore safety regulations? I've never seen a "safety officer"! If i was the DZO, (S&TA) then I could do anything I wanteds as long as they didnt find out and suspend my rating right?

They don't enforce the BSR's, or very rarely do they enforce them. They may not even suspend your rating(s). I know a RD (now ND) that said "What do you want me to do? Take away a rating he doesn't have?" when they were told of a DZO doing AFF w/o an AFFI rating.
