thelem 0 #2 June 8, 2004 Does anyone know what type of jump he'll be doing? From what I remember of the video of the 75th jump, it was a solo jump and wasn't AFF or SL (ie it looked like an experienced jump). I'm sure they wouldn't just let anyone out of a plane like that, so does anyone have a better memory of his last jump?
AggieDave 6 #3 June 8, 2004 He's doing an AFF jump on Sunday, although according to the GKs he's going to do a warmup tandem before Sunday as well. It's all happening in College Station and all the stuff before the actual jump on Sunday is happening at my DZ, so its a lot of fun seeing it all happen and getting to meet some cool folks.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." slotperfect 7 #5 June 9, 2004 President Bush, like him or not, made significant contributions to his country and to the sport of skydiving. The death holiday joke was not only in poor taste, but the ensuing discussion effectively hijacked this thread. I have edited out the joke post and the chatter that followed to put the thread back on track.Arrive Safely John
Icon134 0 #6 June 9, 2004 Yeah, I think its awesome that Bush is doing the AFF's... I remember when I was starting I told my dad that he should try it... a tandum at least... Seeing that 80 Yr old President Bush is doing it by himself (aff style)... might be an excellent way to convince him to try it out... I do think he would enjoy it... now just a week and a half to get the cast off my hand... then a few weeks of PT to rebuild... the muscles and to get the bones fully recovered and I'll be back on my way to my A license... My Mom, 74, is choosing to make a tandem with me this year, and I betcha there will be others of her generation that show up at Raeford as a result of the Prez. jahk 0 #8 June 9, 2004 (I'm going to try really hard to make this a clicky. Forgive me if I miss.) This is from Alti-2's website, and it looks like an AFF-1. Also, I think it's pretty cool that they made him a custom alitmeter with the presidential seal on the face. http://www.alti-2.com/alti-bush.htm Judith ________________________________________________Imelda Marcos just wanted some cute shoes that didn't make her feet hurt. teason 0 #10 June 9, 2004 Actually I think his first one was from the wing of a plane in WW2. If I can remember the story right, his plane was shot down and he deployed while still on the plane itself 'cause he didn't want to jump. He did an AFF in the late 90's to do it right. ...or at least I think that's how the story goes...I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. riggerrob 643 #11 June 10, 2004 (retired) President George Bush was invited to be the keynote speaker at the 1997 PIA Symposium in Houston. After his speech, PIA presented him with a Switlick seatpack from the same batch as he used during World War 2. At 0-dark-thirty the next morning, he phoned his USPA liason officer to ask about doing a skydive. The retired President pooh-poohed the notion of doing a tandem jump. Then PIA members lined up in a mad rush to donate equipment for Bush's AFF jump. Precision Aerodynamics donated a Raven-M 282 reserve. Flight Concepts donated Man of War and Manta main canopies. Airtec donated a Cypres. FXC donated a Model 12000 Rev. M AAD, and I packed them all into a Telesis harness/container donated by Rigging Innovations. Meanwhile jumpsuit, helmet and altimeter manufacturers donated accessories. Larry Hill even donated a few hours of Skyvan time.

It was definately a fun time. G. Bush is now an honorary member of the SD Aggieland staff.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Douva 0 #17 June 14, 2004 So what happened???? I just caught a blurb for tonight's news--They only showed him doing a tandem and didn't say anything about an AFF jump. Did the AFF jump get scrapped? How was the event? What was the crowd like? Was there any non-ex-presidential jumping going on? Curious minds want to know. --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree. AggieDave 6 #18 June 14, 2004 And all these people didn't believe me when I said he was going to do a tandem, just because some newspaper on the other side of the country said so. larsrulz 0 #20 June 14, 2004 I heard weather was bad, so they did a tandem instead of an AFF; two in fact. Is this true? I also heard he asked Gorbachev to come along with as he was there for the birthday bash, but Mikhail said he was too old for that.
