Flyer2Diver 0 #1 June 13, 2004 OK, no shit, there I was - 14,000 feet in the Otter yesterday. About to launch a simple 2-way after a day of canopy control hop 'n pop's. I get in the door and am holding the bar, and at least two people are pointing at me. I wonder "what are they pointing at". A split second later, I feel it - the chin strap of my brand new bonehead helmet fluttering against my neck. I reach for it, but the wind reaches faster and I feel it leave. Oh Shit! So I resign myself to having a $160 jump, and learning a good lesson about double-checking everything - not just handles, pins and harness. I did one more jump with a loaner helmet (thanks, Sonic & Donna). Driving home and the cell rings - it's the gear store, and they've found the helmet - in the parking lot at the DZ, completely undamaged! How's that for a great spot!! I had to buy some raffle tickets, because it was clearly my lucky day! Dougiefresh 0 #5 June 13, 2004 Quotecompletely undamaged! Wait a minute, it fell 14k and isn't damaged? Bull, you just can't SEE the damage. I wouldn't wear it again...Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

Brian425 0 #7 June 14, 2004 Who was flying Julie or Dan? We get some pretty good spots at the Ranch. I would not use the helmet again until it is inspected by the manufacturer. The polystyrene layer that absorbs that help disperse the loads of the impact may have been damaged. It may not look damaged; but, I would not use it myself. Send it to Bonehead and see what they say. Funny I have a stange dent on the roof of my truck. Someone told me it small meteor that hit it while I was up on a load. What an amazing coincidence. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.

Why not it's main function is to keep your hair looking good and to hold your dytter (or similar), they are NOT impact absorbers like motorcycle helmetsYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! masher 1 #9 June 14, 2004 That's about right. A real impact absorbing helmet would have shattered on impact. It would have absorbed the impact, instead of passing it onto your head. The fact that it is still in one piece demonstrates that it it shit for protecting your head in an impact, and therefore only good for keeping the wind out of your hair, and your dytter in your ear.-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
WFFC 1 #10 June 14, 2004 yeah...attach a camera to your bonehead and it shatters on impact... So, don't attach a camera and your bonehead will survive. Love my FTPro.----- ~~~Michael
