theskydiveguy 0 #1 February 2, 2004 Hi! I am compiling Canopy control information so that my club can offer a non-formal course in the evenings to anyone interested and so that we can build it into our students progression. We are a member run club in Ontario http://www.swoop.on.ca and are the oldest club in Canada. Just looking for suggestions from a few of you who have taken courses and teach similar ones. Thanks in advance! ~Jeff Monkey Brother #1 http://www.monkeybrothers.ca
CanuckInUSA 0 #2 February 2, 2004 I believe SkymonkeyOne is saying that he's available to travel to different DZs and speak to people about canopy control courses (and he's obviously very much qualified to do so what with him being on the PST). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 February 2, 2004 Dig up Bryan Burke's stuff on the skydive arizona website. Most schools out there use his writings as a base, no matter what they tell you.
jaybo 0 #4 February 2, 2004 Bryans writings are the most comprehensive I've read (and re-read) to date. There is one thing that comes to mind that is often over looked. Canopy turns with different toggle input starting points. I.E. half brake toggles and stabbing one side down vs. stabbing one side while releasing the other. Same scenarios in 1/4 brake. Obviously, many scenarios to consider but equally important is under what circumstances to consider. I am relatively knowledgeable with flight characteristics and associated canopy control but don't have reference material for the wide array of circumstance under which to apply
theskydiveguy 0 #5 February 2, 2004 Thanks so much guys! I will start looking through Brian's stuff! If anyone else is interested you can CLICKY here! ~Jeff Monkey Brother #1 http://www.monkeybrothers.ca
TimDave 0 #6 February 6, 2004 I would also recommend talking to Brian Germain and see what he may have to help you out. I have taken the Evolution Canopy Flight school in Perris (who use Burke's writings as a base), I also have spent may days one-on-one with Brian Germain, and had conversations with John LeBlanc, Scott Miller, and the Team Extreme guys. All had good input. Brian's was by far the best since he can talk about the "feel stuff" as well as give you all the technical-aero-physics-zen-mind-body stuff.
