adrenalinejunki 0 #1 June 23, 2004 A few freinds of mine and myself started noticing that most skydivers at our dropzone are left handed. I was just curious as to how many left handed jumpers there are compared to how many right handed jumpers. This is just one of those things that would be interesting to know. __________________________________________________What's the worst that can happen? nightjumps 1 #2 June 23, 2004 Whichever hand deploys the pilotchute is right. If the main canopy mals, then the right handle is right, then the handle that's left is right.
councilman24 37 #3 June 23, 2004 can use both ... for skydiving. At one time in the early eighties, before handles were standardized I ordered a right hand throw out, left hand cutaway, and right hand reserve. Instead they sent me a complete left handed rig with everything reversed, including left hand throwout. At the time I also had a right hand throwout rig. So for a while I was jumping a left hand throw out, a right hand throw out, and a right hand ripcord rig interchangably. Only started reaching the wrong way once.I'm old for my age. AndyAnderson 0 #6 June 25, 2004 I am a lefty. Only 1 in 10 of the population is a lefty but that is growing as the prejudice against the left hand diminishes. Astronauts are 250% above the expected level for left handedness. Usally if someone notices you are left handed they are also a lefty, right handers seldom notice. pccoder 0 #7 June 26, 2004 From the results of this poll, it would appear that more than half the skydive community (on this website) can at least use their left hand. Interesting statistics!! Of course, it could mean nothing more than "more than half the skydive community that visits this website can use their left hand" PcCoder.net
AndyAnderson 0 #8 June 27, 2004 Or left handers feel this poll applies to them so they vote but right handers do not care and see nothing special about left handedness. Go ask a random 100 and you should not get more than 20 lefties.

DrunkMonkey 0 #10 June 29, 2004 I'm also a "southpaw." We're also much more likely to be involved in industrial accidents, due to right-handed designs of heavy machinery. I hated desks in college, there were never enough left ones. I hate writing in pencil/gel ink. Always puts a big smear on the edge of my hand... Dougjumper 0 #11 June 29, 2004 Yeah you need both hands in Skydiving. One to do the hand toss thingy and the other to hold yourself if all else fails... Sorry just had to get that in...
