4 Way RW/Tunnel Camp

Recommended Posts

Who has been to a 4 way RW/tunnel camp - the five day camp that includes 24 jumps with a coach, video and an hour of coached tunnel time? What I'd like to know is what was your skill level going in and how much did you improve with the camp. They're offering it at Perris and it sounds like something that would really benefit me, but first I want to talk to Dan BC and ask him if he thinks I could do one now or if I should wait until I have more 4 way experience. In the meantime I'd like to hear opinions of people who have done this sort of camp. Thanks!

Every one of these PPP 4-way camps, so far, has had some folks with jump numbers similar to yours. That's not to say that their experience level was the same, only the jump numbers. If I'm right, you've been doing mostly (exclusively) RW so far but havent' done a lot of hard core training.

This -is- hard core training.

Being involved with several of these camps (from purely a camera flyer's point of view) this is, in my opinion, the absolute most efficient way to jump start your 4-way. Yes, it costs a bit, but you'll be amazed at how quickly your skill level will go up. I see people with low jump numbers starting the camp barely able to be stable (from a 4-way point of view) and being able to hold their own pretty damn well by the end of it. With under 200 jumps, you're not going to turn 20 points in time at the end of it, but you -will- have learned all of the basics of flying your body and the people you normally jump with -will- notice a huge difference.

Like I said, this -is- hard core training and will push you physically. If you're thinking of attending the August camp, start doing cardio and some push ups now. ;)

Not a problem. I work out for a couple hours a day - cardio and weight training. The thing I was concerned about is if I needed more 4 way RW experience before attending the camp.

My sentiments exactly. I had friends get their A license the same time I did. I immediately started going to two-way camps and Basic RW camps and getting experience. These same people were still doing solos. Now I have experienced 4-way competition and it jump-started my experience in 4-way. Evelyn, just go for it. You will love it. I only wish I had the money to commit to this camp at this time. But I will definitely take one in the future. That is an opportunity you cannot pass up if it is within your means to do so.

See you again soon. It was great to meet you and share the tunnel experience.

Good point, BUT it's one thing to get experience jumping with friends or jumps put together by the LO, and quite another thing getting experience jumping with people who have paid money for a camp. I don't think it would be fair to the others if I was way below their skill level. Sure, I'd benefit, but they wouldn't. That's why I'm so concerned about the skill level/experience issue. So I'm going to wait until I talk to Dan this weekend before committing. If he says, go for it, there will be others with my skill level then I will definately go for it!!

Evelyn,

You should definitely go to the camp and not worry about yours or any one else's skill level. You are all students of the art of RW there, and as such, each one will have a weakness and strength -

But perhaps most of all, if you don't attend you may be denying someone with a little more experience than you the chance to be a helping hand. Most people (excepting too busy skygods) love the opportunity to share with another jumper what they have learned - and will jump at the chance of taking someone else under their wing (okay, bad pun)

If you have the money, and the time, I think you should go -

I'm really hopeing to go. Just want to talk to Dan BC first. Yeah, I know what you mean about taking someone under your wing. I actually got to act as a coach at a RW camp I attended last weekend and it was really cool, helping out a fellow jumper with a new license. Funny though, I wore my 13 lbs. of lead cuz I didn't think anyone fell slower then me, but he did. He was above me and I was givng him signals to arch and trying to dearch myself which is something I'm so not used to doing. But it was still a good jump.
