Looks to be another one of those 'squatter' portals that generates a lot of pop ups and all points to the same generic bullshit advertising while feigning legitimacy w/ a little content about the sport. I don't get their point in doing this, though.

Ok, this has gone too far. A particular person has gone and purchased www.skydivingfatalities.com and is using it as a portal to advertise dropzones.

Not only that, but it generates several popups, and offers to change your home page setting.

Unreal.

Blue Ones !

Sorry - I have all of that blocked on my system, so I never know if that is happening.

Funny, I was just looking up the whois as the other post went up.

Backfire how? Nobody requested that their ad be put up on skydivingfatalities.com. Companies buy tons of domain names just to put up ads and to generate hits to make the domain name more valuable. They put ads that are related to the domain to hopefully get some click throughs.

I think this is actually kinda funny. I'm sure it wasnt done on purpose.

Look right at the top of that page... "Top Skydiving Search Results." I'm willing to bet that company owns hundreds of domain names and probably associates each one with keywords. Then related ads are automatically placed on the page.

Call up John Eddows at cross keys and ask if he placed an ad on skydivingfatalities.com...

In fact, look up the company that registered the domain... http://www.nameadmininc.com/
From their website:

"Many generic domain names receive organic browser type-in traffic from people looking for the subject matter described in the words of a particular domain name. Name Administration's system, serves targetted content to generic domain names through an advertiser network looking for specific types of internet traffic for their businesses and websites."

Have you guys noticed that the advertised dropzones are listed as "Top Skydiving Search Results"? This is a good indication to me that they didn't pay for the advertising.

I've googled a little bit for "skydiving" and found that many of the ads on skydivingfatalities.com show up in Google's "Sponsored Links" section on the right. They show up randomly, so I haven't seen every one there, but I get a feeling that the companies advertised on skydivingfatalities.com signed up to advertise with either Google or another search engine, and whoever bought skydivingfatalities.com just put links to the top paid hits for "skydiving" on their page.

Edit: Wow, Pilotdave, that synchronization of our posts was kind of scary.

Didn't your mutha teach you - never answer a question with a question

P.S. No desire to start a low pulling thread. Just thought the title was a tad 'misleading'. And yeah, never pull low unless you have to, or decide to having fully considered possible consequences.

You know the contrary? What he said makes sense and is probably correct.

Why do I have to know anything. I am asking if someone who made a statement knows that it is actually true, or is just speculating.

If I am wrong forgive me, but your statement carried with it a tone of "if you don't know this for sure, don't say it" and this forum is inundated with people like that making it not so fun to post without fear of being hastled.

I was probably wrong, my bad.
