skyyhi 0 #2 February 11, 2004 Hey Tom. . .Congrats on passing your last level. Remember when the JM first let go of you and it kinda felt a little unsteady at first? Well, that is kinda the same feeling. Just be sure to maintain a good strong arch and it will be stable. Good luck to you!________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
benny 0 #3 February 11, 2004 Hola, I did my D just a couple of weeks ago, not only was it my first time no contact, it was my first time out of the cessna too. It really wasn't that bad, just remember to relax and arch. I flailed my legs for a couple of seconds because I was thinking "oh shit I'm falling" Don't do that. Never go to a DZ strip show. kris12 0 #4 February 11, 2004 still a newbie; just my personal experience I didn't want to do the level before the no contact exit, because I was scared of it (the no contact exit). Well, when I finally got to that level, I had this incredibly terrified look on my face. I did my count and exited and the look on my face changed to huge relief (my jumpmaster tells this story much better than I do), because it wasn't as bad as I thought. It was easier than with someone holding on to me. Just remember to arch, have fun and smile!! Good luck and have fun! kristen swooo #3 MB #3587 P.M.S. #66 "so let go, jump in...what're you waiting for? it's all right 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown"
JeffD 0 #5 February 11, 2004 I think my first solo exit was my best out of my training. I say this because you wont get jerked around if the JM leaves just a tad too late or gets blown around a little bit. Just relax and show your JM that you can do this by yourself. Have fun! Nightingale 0 #7 February 11, 2004 when I find myself with stability problems, I just take a deep breath and relax into my arch, and everything falls right into place.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 February 11, 2004 Where are you jumping that you are doing solo, no grip exits on Cat D? Cat D's are one JM release dives with turns. Cat E's are solo exits with aerobatics.

benny 0 #11 February 11, 2004 At my DZ, cat D, level 5 as I knew it, was an optional no contact exit with prior instructor consent based on previous performance. ASC. Never go to a DZ strip show.
atsaubrey 0 #12 February 11, 2004 dont sweat anything. You already know what to do right? if you get unstable, what do you do? You wouldnt be at this level if you werent ready for it right? Whats to worry about?....nothing. Now go have some fun."GOT LEAD?"

He's jumping at Skydive The Point, and Jim Crouch definitely follows the ISP! According to that, D1 is an optional no-grip exit, and D2 is a solo exit requirement. My first solo exit was on D2, which I think is the standard that he uses. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information! Luv2Fall 0 #15 February 12, 2004 Don't remember all the details but I believe gripped exits were optional and I told my JM to let me fly.

Well, that is kinda the same feeling. Just be sure to maintain a good strong arch and it will be stable. Good luck to you! Tom, Like skyyhi said, and to be honest, this jump spooked me a bit since my JM was inside the plane doing a dive exit, and I was outside all by my little lonesome self doing a floating exit in an Otter. I was reverse arched on exit, and tumbled. The exit does feel different. Had I smiled, relaxed, arched (in that order) I would have been fine. I tensed, looked down, and had a most uncharacteristically unsexy exit. On AFF-4 and 5, I was released before coming off the hill without problem, so I know how to exit. I just blew the solo one. Smile, relax, and arch! Tell us how it went! You'll do great!
