captain1 0 #1 August 20, 2004 This one is for the psychologists and experienced jumpers. Is it common to see injured and disoriented jumpers apologizing for their actions before the chopper or ambulance arrives? I think about my accident a lot and I was very sorry and apologetic at the time. I still try to figure out why I was apologizing. Maybe it was to myself. BIGUN 1,440 #2 August 20, 2004 Mostly, when something like that happens, people are apologizing because they think they affected someone else's day negatively. Most times, people are worried about the skydiver and the skydiver is worried about affecting them. It's all about caring for each other. Let it go.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
captain1 0 #3 August 20, 2004 Thankyou, it was a good reply. I try to forget about the accident but whuffoo family and friends try to fry the incident into my brain. I am moving out of town.
riggerrob 643 #4 August 20, 2004 I have heard plenty of tandem students apologize for bad landings. For example, the last time a tall student dug in his heals and almost cracked my teeth, as my jaw slammed into the back of his head!
jdfreefly 1 #5 August 20, 2004 While I was laying on the ground awaiting the ambulance ride... I appologized to the DZO. They had stopped jumping while we were waiting and I felt bad....like I was costing him and my friends who work there money. Plus, it always has to ruin your day when you are a DZO and someone you know gets hurt. Methane Freefly - got stink?
TomAiello 26 #6 August 20, 2004 QuoteIs it common to see injured and disoriented jumpers apologizing for their actions before the chopper or ambulance arrives? Totally normal. I've been on scene for around 20 serious (i.e. requiring hospitalization) accidents. I've never _not_ heard a jumper apologizing when physically able to do so. I know I've done it. I just feel bad for bringing down everyone else's day.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
evilivan 0 #7 August 20, 2004 Yep, I think its normal too. I know that when I injured myself I was very apologetic to my mate who was with me - it was as much hassle for him getting me to hospital as it was for me (although a little less painful ). I was definitely babbling due to the shock, but the apologies were genuine.... The dude ended up missing his nightshift waiting with me in casualty, so I think I owed him the apology."If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation." I don't think it's specific to skydiving, or 'extreme' either. I remember when I femured in a sea-do accident. 4 of us floating in the water, one of the sleds capsized, the other not starting. I did not cause the accident but I do remember stating several times in the lake "I got f*cked up! I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I was so very worried about them. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
