ickleFish 0 #1 August 20, 2004 I've seen a bit of info on this and had a look at the prospectus, but wondered what the general opinion is of this course in Christchurch (from anyone who might have done it, and also from experienced jumpers who have heard of it)? I haven't been skydiving for about a year now due to having difficulty getting to a DZ, and money...but I really want to get back into it, but also want to go travelling (or just get away from the UK) for a while, and this would seem like a good mix of both. I'm not particularly looking at it as a way to get a skydiving related job, but it seems like a good thing to learn about all aspects of skydiving, and the price looks OK considering everything that's included. I also realise that when I get back to the UK I'll probably have to complete another few hundred jumps before I can continue doing half the stuff that is on the course, but it still seems like a good way to spend a year. So...anyone got an opinions? I've heard it wasn't too good when it first started, but has apparently got a lot better since then? Thanks
chutem 0 #2 August 20, 2004 Check under photo/video forum for career possibilities. There is a very recent discussion of this place there. Doesn't seem to be much from recent grads there, more about early classes. Hope that helps James
ickleFish 0 #3 August 21, 2004 Thanks for that....just had a read, and it would be interesting to hear from people who have been on the course more recently. I'm not really looking at it as if I'll get some wonderful job when it's over like some people in that thread seem to be. It just looks like a great way to spend a year away from home and learn more about skydiving aswell. What does anyone think about the cost? Some people seem to be saying it's a rip-off, but for what you get, I don't see it as really expensive? For me it would work out at NZ$13,400 (plus gear and other stuff). WrongWay 0 #4 August 21, 2004 Shit dude, I'd do it just to spend a year in New Zealand at a dz. All training aside, that'd be a fun year!! Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.
bigway 4 #5 August 21, 2004 if you already have your aff license go and do it somehwerelse. it costs nz'ers 7,500 and foreigners 12,500nzd. i did it. it is great to get into skydiving being a kiwi cause you can get a student loan. if you already have your a license though think about it this way....if you do the course, it is a course!! you are back in a educational environment. class starts at a certain time and finishes at a certain time. if you are absent you get jumps docked from the money you have already paid. if you are late, you get in trouble. you have exams, you have to go to lectures on rainy days. you HAVE TO PACK 40 TANDEMS. you have to do homework and assignments. Now skydiving is about fun!. do you want to spend all day when it is raining in a class room and feel like you can get in trouble by the teacher again??? or do you want to jump when you want and not when you have to?? if you do not however have your license well go and do this and get the student loan from the govt. so you can pay it back with no interest for the rest of your life....oh, wait you are from the u.k. so you can't get the loan and you have to pay 5,000nzd more than everyone else. dude, for 9000 nz dollars i will give you a return plane ticket to auckland via thailand and australia, free accomodation at our dz, 170 skydives from 13,000feet, this includes 20 free coach jumps from the new zealand 4-way team, a video editing course and packing course. all of this for 3-4000nzd cheaper than anywhere in new zealand. email me if you are interested. I am in kenmore scotland at the moment and have just sent a bloke over there, he arrives in december, to start his aff course. now i am not trying to take bussiness from christchurch, but i was on the course and it is good but it is SCHOOL with deadlines and times. where i am telling you about, has it's tandems but also has alot of sport jumpers and the top freeflers and rw coaches in the country, these are the blokes who win our nationals and represent our country. anyway, sorry if this sounds like a sale pitch, i just think this is the best and cheapest option for anyone going to new zealand. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
