atsaubrey 0 #1 February 16, 2004 Anybody see me eat it hard today on my landing? No i'm not hurt (thankfully) but I definately did something wrong, but not sure exactly what. I may have flared a bit late but a late flare doesnt make you roll for 30ft. If you weren't there, it wasnt pretty."GOT LEAD?"
mjosparky 4 #2 February 16, 2004 Hey big guy, glad to here you are right. Do you think maybe you down winded? How have you other landing been with the 370? If you are out, will see you next week. atsaubrey 0 #3 February 16, 2004 when I set up my pattern there wasnt any wind to speak of, so I set up for landing towards the lake. I was like 5th out and I did notice the first two people down were doing this landing pattern. But the others switched to a east to west pattern but it didnt appear to be any wind, so I continued my original pattern. I went onto final and next thing I know...WHAM. Once i got up the wind was coming from the south so it appears to be a downwind landing. I'm kinda rattled, not sure how to handle the situation with changing winds. As for my other landings they have been pretty good in my opinion. I havent stood any up with the 370 but could have if I tried. I definately need to get into a canopy class. If anyone saw it please let me know your opinions...just dont call me a dumbass, my ego is the thing bruised at the moment."GOT LEAD?"
skyyhi 0 #4 February 16, 2004 Aubrey, I believe you definitely had a downwind on that landing. The wind had kicked up a little (not much, but was definitely b.lowing off the buildings towards the lake. I think Tom said you may have started your flare a little late also - I didn't see that part, just where you landed and tumbled. Hey, you walked away from the landing and did okay. My landings were not graceful yesterday either. Winds were light but shifting all over the place. . .I was watching the tetrahedron shift directions while I was coming down under canopy. . .it was a little unnerving. . . You will do fine my friend. . .just keep getting up there and trying again. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

skyyhi 0 #6 February 16, 2004 Aw Aubrey. . . Let me tell you a funny story. . .it should make you feel a little better. . . There is this guy at the DZ whose name I won't mention, just in case he posts here. He has thousands of jumps and is kind of arrogant. Well, he was coming in for a landing (one of about 8 he had already put in that day), flared late, didn't get his knees up, put a foot down, and ended up tumbling across the grass. . .with EVERYONE watching and laughing. . .remember, he has THOUSANDS of jumps. So my friend, a short little tumble from a person with just a few jumps is okay. . .chalk it up to a learning experience. . .chances are you will have many more tumbles in skydiving. All my first jumps were tumbles. . .and I expect I will have many more. . . Take care. . .and see you soon for another jump. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
JJohnson 0 #7 February 16, 2004 Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time I was Elsinore I downwinded one by following the Tetra-lying-don.....After a nice 20 yard jog I was told not to pay any attention to it unless the wind was really moving and consistent.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
skyyhi 0 #8 February 16, 2004 Yep, that is correct. . but the winds were shifting direction. . .luckily, they were VERY LIGHT winds. . . Unless you got a minimum of 10 mph winds, just look at the flags. . .that is what I have been told. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
mjosparky 4 #9 February 17, 2004 I will be down there Sat., if you are jumping ask me to watch your landings. Don't worry about your pride, everyone skydiving has or will be there. I have done it and will do it again. But like Darcy said, you walked away, good landing. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Aubrey, please don't be embarrassed. Elsinore is NOT the easiest place for anyone to learn to land. I had a difficult time there at first, too. I am kind-of glad now that I wasn't there on Sunday because the winds and turbulence can really screw us all. I esp. feel the craziness in winds as I have such a light wing-loading. Thank God that I feel comfortable landing my chute, even when/if I must downwind or crosswind.
Monkeyb 0 #11 February 19, 2004 I'm a newbie with only 3 AFF jumps and one tandem. I've landed my canopy successfuly only once, and that one was thanks to radio guidance. I have a bad habit of flaring early and eating dirt I feel horrible about it, but it's not really humiliating. As long as I don't get hurt on the landing, I just laugh it off. I too go to Elsinore, and people there are really encouraging. You'll be alright man, trust me, I'm in worse shoes than you are
 atsaubrey 0 #12 February 19, 2004 You'll be alright man, trust me, I'm in worse shoes than you are you havent seen me land man! lol Hell I was on the radio for my first 16 jumps and have 3 radioless jumps now but the last one (19) was my crash. I finally got the confidence to get off the damn radio and sure as hell dont want to go back."GOT LEAD?"
