themitchyone 0 #1 August 31, 2004 I rented a 10lb weight belt this weekend, and it made a tremendous difference. Instead of working to keep up my fall rate to match my jump partner I could concentrate on the flying part. Weight belts are $75 from Para-Gear. A SCUBA friend suggested SCUBA weights which are cheaper, but from what I've seen they are bulkier. If anyone has any suggestions about weight belts I would appreciate it. diablopilot 2 #2 August 31, 2004 I wouldn't go the SCUBA weight route. They are not very comfortable (how ever comfortable weights can be.....)---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
Remster 30 #3 August 31, 2004 How handy are you? I sewed my wife's weight belt. She had done her own weights with lead shot (i'm sure its even easier for you yanks to get some ammo then for us pinko commie canadians )Remster
jlmiracle 7 #4 August 31, 2004 Wal-Mart has some weights. I believe they are ankle weights and they fit nicely in my weight vest. Buy a weight vest and make the weights yourself or go to Wal-mart. Weights are relatively cheap until you ship them. JudyBe kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
flyangel2 2 #5 August 31, 2004 I'm sure John Kallend will post here soon. He made his weights from those ankle weights that Judy is talking about. Though I wonder if there is a problem with adding and subtracting the amount. Indeed I did - I sewed three Reebok ankle weights end to end and added snap fasteners at the front. The weights are in zippered pockets and come in and out easily. Each supplied weight is a little over 1/2 pound but I can fit 1 pound and 2 pound weights in the pockets if I need more. Entire cost, including 8lb of weight, was around $25... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

ltdiver 3 #10 September 1, 2004 QuoteI'm sure John Kallend will post here soon. He made his weights from those ankle weights that Judy is talking about. Though I wonder if there is a problem with adding and subtracting the amount. For my first weight belt (to change from the weight vest I'd been lugging around on my shoulders for years) I was able to use just two 5# ankle weights from Big5 Sports Store. Total of 10# was just about right for me. These lasted about 2 years then I received a surprise when the velcro straps gave up the ghost in freefall! The velcro was still good, but the strap had finally given out and split in two where they went through the 'ring'. Thankfully I'd been wearing the weights -inside- my jumpsuit! What would have happened had they been strapped around my waist -outside-?! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
Evelyn 0 #11 September 1, 2004 I just bought a weight belt from Square 1, but maxed it out at 18 1/2 lbs. Tried wearing a weight vest with my weight belt but split the seams on my jumpsuit and it was really uncomfortable. So have decided to just wear my 18 1/2 lbs. of weight and not jump with anyone who can't fall with me. kelpdiver 2 #12 September 1, 2004 QuoteI wouldn't go the SCUBA weight route. They are not very comfortable (how ever comfortable weights can be.....) If it's intended for the belt, soft weights are very comfy, and I seem to keep finding 5lbers in the water. Or if $$ are not a big object, SeaSoft makes very very comfy ones. However, as a design diving weight belts are usually made to be released easily in a crisis, perhaps not ideal for this sport.
dippymoo 0 #13 September 1, 2004 I wear a very fine weight belt made for me by Terminal Imagery and Rigging. Its custom colors and size, with a unique buckle pad to stop getting owies from the clips. PM me to find out where you can get one. You may have seen them modeled by Synchronicity when they were training this weekend.

happythoughts 0 #16 September 1, 2004 I sometimes wear a Leadbelly weight belt when I am in the base on a big-way. Normally, my chubby self doesn't need weights. I stayed away from a vest because you can't get rid of them easily in the event of a water landing. I live in Florida and we have retention ponds everywhere. There is a Dutch jumper who makes a vest that comes unsnapped easily for that reason. Some people have the weights added to their rig.
mouth 0 #17 September 2, 2004 My Odyssey has a pocket for weights sewn into the backpad. I can put 6 pounds in there comfortably but anything after that I put in my belt. This does make putting on your rig interesting since I sorta have to throw it up to pull it over my arm. Looks really funny but works great. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
