jjiimmyyt 0 #1 September 16, 2004 After seeing Acme's license thread in Bonfire I noticed some saying/impling you need to have higher than an A license to land on a beach. As I did my AFF onto a beach at a USPA DZ (now BPA) I was a bit surprised. I've looked in the BSRs and general recomendations in the online SIM but can't see such a restriction/recommendation. Or am I just on crack? "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
AggieDave 6 #2 September 16, 2004 As far as I can remember, there isn't a license requirement, but due to past fatalities and troubles of jumping over/next to open water, folks tend to want to see a B license.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." jjiimmyyt 0 #3 September 16, 2004 Dave you are turning into my answer guy today, thanks. BTW the beach we land on has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, is over 3 miles long and, at low tide, about 3/4 mile wide. We also only jump when wind is in the right direction. happythoughts 0 #4 September 16, 2004 Most DZs do not have a beach, so the beach is an off-DZ landing. The beach is generally a private one, in front of a bar or something. Therefore, the DZ regards them as a demo jump. Another consideration is that quite a few beaches are narrow strips in front of a parking lot and cars. A lot of folks trying to land in a confined space with obstacles around can be tricky. It is important to jump within the limits of safety.

Conquest150 0 #6 September 16, 2004 It all really depends on the dropzone and what they want to allow. i know where i jump jyou have to have a "C" license to land on the beach. And as it relates to the other thread, you have to have your C license, not just meet the requirements.
JohnMitchell 16 #7 September 16, 2004 See the USPA rules on size of DZ requirements for various licenses. Sounds like the beach you have is big enough for A license, but don't forget your floatation gear.
jjiimmyyt 0 #8 September 16, 2004 We all have buddi bouys or similar flotation devices. And yes we had one un-intentional water landing but Flipper loves his nickname. I just guess he likes rides in safety boats (yes we have those too, every load) As for size limits we are well within the 100ms in the BSRs, if we don't have 250m NO ONE JUMPS - not even TMs, D license etc. "This isn't an iron lung, people.
