groundpounder 0 #1 September 29, 2004 Hypothetical...Say some body wants to jump into his college graduation. Assuming he can convince a pilot to drop him over the stadium, can he expect to get his rig confiscated, assuming that he'll be arrested? Second, what are the regs for a pilot dropping someone? Does it have to be over a dz or a legit demo location? I mean, you only graduate once...but I'd also hate to not get a diploma because of it. full and plare.... TALONSKY 0 #2 September 29, 2004 Look at the SIM under Pro Rating. Yes, it would have to be a legitmate demo jump with all prior approval. You would have to have your Pro rating. The pilot and the DZO and then you will be held responsible if the demo jump is done without all the correct approvals. The Pilot could lose his license, the DZO and you could be kicked out of the USPA for life also. Kirk

Also, doing this at 70 jumps is something to reconsider (read FORGET ABOUT IT) You only graduate once, make sure you make it through the ceremony. dreamsville 0 #4 September 29, 2004 Smaller venues with large fields (>500,000 ft2, a number of things in the SIM) are much easier to do, because not all require a Pro rating. However, I believe you need a D license to do those, officially. In the case of a college football stadium, that's a whole 'nother thing. Work on accuracy, cause if you can do the 10 pre-declared landings, the rest of the Pro shouldn't be too difficult. Having said that, I have read the SIM, work on accuracy, but have never gotten around to getting the rating. I have, however, done some demo jumps at small-time venues with good-sized fields. |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
cvfd1399 0 #5 September 29, 2004 I know that you can make a jump onto your own property if the area is large and clear enough after the proper people are notified and it is legit. Right? So what makes an event a "event"?
happythoughts 0 #6 September 29, 2004 Legalities? The pilot would lose his license, you would go to jail. Things to consider? Stadiums jumps are not normal jumps. A stadium is a large fixed object and it creates a lot of squirrelly wind. You wouldn't land 30 feet from the hangar, right? How about something 50 times that size. The object is on all sides. Most stadiums have flagpoles on the top edge. Next time you go by one, look at the flags. Almost a guaranteed problem. A lot of experience is sometimes not enough. At 700 jumps, maybe. At 70 jumps, absolutely not.
chuckbrown 0 #7 September 29, 2004 If you don't follow the proper procedures and file a 7711-2 (and adhere to the conditions), the following will likely happen: 1. The FAA will discipline the pilot for allowing you to jump over a congested area/open air assembly of persons without the proper authority. 2. The property owner will file a trepassing complaint because they never permitted you to jump into the area. You'll probably be arrested on the spot. Disorderly conduct isn't out of the question either. 3. The police will confiscate your equipment as evidence, and may forfeit it as property used in the commission of a crime. 4. The school doesn't have to permit you to participate in graduation exercises. They will give you your diploma, but you may not get it on stage. Enjoy the graduation. There's plenty of time to jump. mjosparky 4 #8 September 29, 2004 If you were smart enough to graduate from college, don't be stupid now and try this stunt. Hell, you may pull it off and you may get away with it but I doubt it. Now that you have a degree you should behave like an adult. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
airtwardo 7 #9 September 29, 2004 Quote Now that you have a degree you should behave like an adult. Quote Ummm....I kinda did it. But NOT into the actual stadium... into the OPEN field next to it, and I not only had a D license but had actually jumped into the stadium a couple dozen times prior. Half an hour before the ceremony, I dropped a stuffed school mascot on a GI Joe parachute into the filling seats from 500 feet as I flew over... landed by my folks and girlfriend, stuffed the ripcord into my cutoffs..with the "MD 20~20" 'gowned up' and graduated. But that was 25 years ago...THINGS HAVE CHANGED! You might want to wait until your Masters! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

dubbayab 0 #15 September 30, 2004 Once did an Illigal jump in to a state park. The rangers approchaced us with smiles and whoo.....hoo's. Then later that day they came back and started asking us questions about the plane we jumped from and who was the pilot. we were heads up and said we jumped from and alien space ship, then shagged ass out of there. If your gonna do it, have a survival plan!!!!!!!!!!!! They can't take your diploma, you earned it...But they may have you arrested and mail your diploma to you mom. Kewl man do it.
