weegegirl 2 #1 September 30, 2004 Who defines such a thing when it comes to records? What constitutes a hybrid vs. a dive with flyers in several orientations? Is there a difference or is it all the same? I'm just curious. Thanks.
mattjw916 2 #2 October 1, 2004 uh oh... I can already sense another heated debate coming... Here is a couple of questions for people to ponder since I am bored and have done a few hybrids: Is a bigish way with a couple of hangers on the base or scattered throughout really a record-worthy "hybrid"? How many hangers/stingers does it take to make it a meaningful record... should there be a ratio like 3:1 RW:FF-ers? Since we have started turning points on hybrids is anyone going to keep track of what the record is? Does anyone care? In any case, I really don't care since I only participate for fun and not to get my pic in Parachutist or whatever... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

If there isn't a ratio, seems like there will need to be lest someone put a single hanger on the upcoming 400way as a joke. Shouldn't it be at most 1:1 RW:FF, or even 1:2 (one above, one below)? Or maybe you get different categories for the common formations.
PhreeZone 20 #4 October 1, 2004 You need to look up some of the old FreakBrothers jumps. a 20+ way round with half them on their backs and half on their bellies. Would that be a hybrid?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

From Merriam-Webster: 1 : an offspring of two animals or plants of different races, breeds, varieties, species, or genera 2 : a person whose background is a blend of two diverse cultures or traditions 3 a : something heterogeneous in origin or composition : COMPOSITE b : something (as a power plant, vehicle, or electronic circuit) that has two different types of components performing essentially the same function Definition 3 is the relevant one. Heterogeneity does not require any specific ratio.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
gemini 0 #6 October 1, 2004 K is right there is no official record, just like the "State Record" jumps. My two cents which are roughly modeled after the VSCR stuff: A record "hybrid" would be a jump consisting of freeflyers and belly jumpers in equal numbers where no less than 50% of the freeflyers are hangers on or in a contact stand on the belly base and the rest are stingers. Both the hangers and stingers may be in contact with other hangers and stingers as long as the line is docked on the belly base. All freefyers must be docked except designated cameraflyers. thelem 0 #7 October 1, 2004 A related question - Define "Sequential" Does one person changing grip make it sequential? Does every jumper need to take a different grip?
darkwing 5 #8 October 1, 2004 QuoteA related question - Define "Sequential" Does one person changing grip make it sequential? Does every jumper need to take a different grip? It is the same problem. For record purposes the definition is whatever a lot of people will agree with. Strictly speaking, one person releasing and redocking on a formation is sequential. Nobody would listen to someones claim of a 5-point 100-way that was done using that criterion though. Unless there is wide-spread agreement, there will be no "official" records, which kind of by definition exist only because a lot of people agree to the details. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
