bbarnhouse 0 #3 October 1, 2004 One would think they'd get the spelling of Amy's last name correct. UGH....we just call her "Amy buy me a vowel) (her camera flyer hasnt been with her for 3 years either..just a point of clarification)Ahhhhh ya gotta love the media. Thanks Qwark for posting this...I'll be sure to print a copy for Miss Amy.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 October 1, 2004 They spelled it "Parris" as well.
JohnRich 4 #5 October 1, 2004 It's not very well written, and it's got some things wrong, but what the heck, it's press coverage. My favorite goof: But besides freestyle, these skydivers are going for accuracy. Now get this: from 13,000 feet in the air they need to hit a target no bigger than this quarter.Actually, accuracy jumps are done as hop 'n pops from 2,500 feet. Still, it's darned hard to hit that 3 centimeter dot.
Deuce 1 #6 October 1, 2004 I get a lot of that from tandems. "Where are we going to hit?" I tell them that if we "hit" it won't matter. I am, however, planning to land right there across from the hangar. I agree, coverage is good.
indyz 1 #7 October 1, 2004 QuoteIt's not very well written, and it's got some things wrong, but what the heck, it's press coverage. To my untrained eye, it looks like it was written to be read from a teleprompter, then just copy-and-pasted with little or no editing.
quade 4 #8 October 2, 2004 Maybe . . . usually teleprompter style calls for numbers to be spelled out though. For example; ". . . twelve thousand five hundred feet." You'll see that in a LOT of television station press clips and that's a give-away. My -guess- is that this was simply transcribed from the package by a newsroom intern for posting on the web site, which is another common way of doing getting these stories to the web.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
tbrown 26 #9 October 2, 2004 The Orange County Register wrote a really decent full page article in their Sports Section this week about the Nats. The emphasis was on canopy swooping, as the most crowd pleasing event ("attracting the same kind of people who go to demolition derbies, for the same reasons"....truer than we might like to admit). It had a pretty accurate description of the three swooping events, a great picture of somebody swooping the pond, a map to the DZ, and a list of all the many Orange County resident skydivers who would be cometing. I can tell you at work the article was a HUGE hit, with people lining up to ask me questions all about it. And so far, there's nearly a dozen people heading out next weekend to check it out. So Bravo to the OC Register! Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
