Terminal-V 0 #1 October 5, 2004 Ok guys and girls I am going to be doing a TAFF through Skydive U and was wondering how much to tip (average range for a good teacher to a great teacher). and also who do I tip, I am going to have 2 instructors on the first jump and 1 instructor for the next 3 jumps and then a freefall coach( for 3 jumps) do I tip every one? I have no clue other then a person should tip thanks everyone, MIke
PhreeZone 20 #2 October 5, 2004 You don't have to tip. Lets get that out there first. Tips are nice.. but don't feel under any obligation to tip. Tip what you feel is right if you do want to tip. Some times $5 might be right... or other times if its someone that helps you to overcome a major obstical it might be worth more to you. But tipping is optionalYesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
hookitt 1 #3 October 5, 2004 I wish I had you as a student Don't by any means feel an obligation to tip. It's just something we don't expect, or get very often. It is quite a treat to recieve one though. Save it up for jump tickets or equipment. You are about to spend a big chunk of cash. If you have the means to tip, and the instructors did a fine job, it's up to you. However, if you think about it, that's quite a lot of instructors you're going to go through before you finish. What ever you do, don't let tipping use up much of your thought process cuz I can assure you, it doesn't consume much of ours. Good luck with aff training! tombuch 0 #5 October 5, 2004 I'll ditto what everybody else said...tips are not required, but they are appreciated. In the tandem program 20.00 is a common tip from those who offer. Tips are less common on the AFF side because there are so many jumps, and the AFF program is expensive. If you want to offer a tip, 10-20 dollars per jump is about right. If you have two instructors give the tip (same 10-20) to the one who was primary, and tell him you appreciated the work both instructors did and hope he will share the tip with his partner. When instructors work together the tips are generally shared anyway. Even if you don't offer a financial tip, you could buy beer, soda, bring a plate of cookies, or just say a sincere "thank you." AFF instructors really understand the financial pressures of the program, and know that many students can't afford any thing extra, so whatever you offer (even just words of appreciation) will be well received.Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! Remster 30 #7 October 5, 2004 QuoteJust buy them all a beer, I'm sure they'll be happy with that. I'd rather share a couple of beers with my students then get a $20 tip. I'm not making my living from skydiving, so my opinion is from that view point. Buy a case. Thats more of a tradition then tipping is.Remster

tigra 0 #10 October 5, 2004 Do you tip other teachers? Tipping is not necessary and you're spending a small fortune to do AFF as it is. There are other ways to show appreciation- beer, homemade cookies, pizza- all of that would be appreciated. I think *most* AFF instructors would prefer you spend your money on more jumps! And remember, if you do want to do something nice for the people who are helping you through your AFF progression, don't forget the manifesters and everyone else who helps out in one way or another!
