ernguru 0 #1 December 29, 2004 I had a dream last night that when I pulled my pilot chute went below me and was falling faster than me. So I went for the reserve and all was ok. Next thing I was sitting in the club house explaining what had happened when one of the guys came in and said that he had recovered everything for me. Told him he was getting drunk for free tonight on me. Weird one Huh???????? Does anyone else dream about weird things like that?
cvfd1399 0 #2 December 29, 2004 I had a dream one time that everyone on the load pulled on time, but just pounded in at terminal speed in this field that had perfectly plowed rows of dirt. I bounced, got up amazed that I lived then looked around to see everyone else getting up and gathering their mains like this is how it was supposed to be done Then a few days later I dreamed we were doing the same thing except we were landing like boats do at a pier, just comming down and making a huge splash in 2 feet of water right next to the dock. We would then climb up a ladder on to the wooden plank dock pack, then wade out into chest deep mud for the otter to pick us up?!!!!!!! No more of whatever I had to eat those 2 nights!!!! tdog 0 #5 December 29, 2004 I have only had one skydiving dream (while asleep)... Malfunction... Cut and pulled reserve. Then woke up as the reserve smacked me. Never saw how it ended. Kind of like going to a movie theatre and the power goes out in the middle of the movie...
cvfd1399 0 #6 December 29, 2004 Well I dont know where the field with rows came from, but the water and mud proally came from always trying to avoid "lake Igo" a grassy square patch of marshland that we usually call the landing area. It haunts me in my dreams calling "wash your jumpsuit I dare you"........
MissMae 0 #7 December 29, 2004 I have had that same one about the field, but it was after my 1st reserve ride after my 2nd solo, and I stood up and was like "what in the hell was that", threw the stuff at the rigger and grabbed another rig to jump that he didnt pack... Weird. take the time to appreciate the people around you.
Adrock 0 #8 December 29, 2004 Yeah, I think we've all had some strange skydiving dreams at one time or another. My favorite of mine is a dream I had that I forgot to pull any handles, and landed in a field still going at terminal. As I climbed out of the crater I had made, I thought, "man, I hope that nobody saw me, cause I'll be grounded for sure." Apparently no one did, and I snuck back into the hanger. tmontana 0 #11 December 29, 2004 I had one where i was out at the dropzone and people kept slamming into the ground and breaking up into neat pieces and everyone working the dropzone was like oh its one of theses days, like every now and then this would just happen, and everyone was running around trying to put the pieces into boxes before the tandem students saw them. And one of the workers looked at me like "hurry up and help us get these body parts into the boxes." Also have had several dreams where i wasn't able to pull in time but could stop my body short of the ground like on cartoons. But i could never do it quite right so i was only able to slow down and i would always hit the ground and tumble a bit but get up and be ok.___________________________________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
nate_1979 9 #12 December 30, 2004 I had once recently, the freaky part is that I know the feeling I had in my arm because a couple of years ago the feeling happened to me a couple of times (had a bunch of problems with my right arm, nobody did ever figure out why).. But anyway, I was in freefall and It's time to pull, I reach back to pull and I have almost NO strength in my arm, cant keep a grip on my hacky and even if I do I dont have the strength to pull.. Was able to pull the reserve with my other hand, then I woke up. Felt so real it was freaky, ... FGF #??? I miss the sky... ChristianH 0 #13 December 30, 2004 I once dream that I was in freefall and just sort of enjoyed the scenery when I decided that it would be a good time to look at the altimeter. I was at something like 500feet or so and I slowly reached for the pc as if I had all the time in the world (500ft? So what! ). The canopy opened instantly and I realized that I was not going to make it back to the DZ (in my dream it was all no big deal). I landed on a soccer field where some high school girls were having a game. They stared at me as if I was an alien. I mumbled a quick excuse and made it out of there. -- At one time when my wife and I were looking at houses I joked with her that I wanted to buy a house near the DZ. In my dream we had this house with a real nice deck VERY close to the DZ. My wife was cooking and I decided that it was enough time to get a jump in before supper was ready. I walked over to the DZ, had a nice jump and landed right in my backyard. My wife came out at that instant with the frying pan in her hand and said "Was that REALLY necessary?". I woke up laughing and my wife laughed when I told her about it and said that if it was her dream she probably would have hit me over the head with the pan. First time I "watched" the local skygods flare their balloon suits to soft landings. Then I had a recurring dream about pounding in, standing up, dusting myself off and hoping that no-one saw me. Kai said that he has had the same dream several times.

LearningTOfly 0 #18 January 1, 2005 That's interesting... I've had a few dreams about people pounding in and then getting up again... aren't dreams wonderful. I've had another in which I fell through some cumulus clouds and thought: 'I must have a bit of time still...' then I look down and see that the trees are unusually large and closing fast, so I dump. In the next scene I'm talking to some friends at the DZ and they were saying how low the pull was... open by fifty feet, apperently. A third was of a cutaway - I pulled, but didn't slow down, so I figured it must be a mal, chopped, reserve opened fine and I felt myself slow. Funny thing was that I never looked up at the canopy once...
skydiver30960 0 #19 January 1, 2005 Going in at full terminal. Going in under a double mal. Pulling WAY low, and impacting with only a partially inflated canopy. And in all cases, I walk away from my little "dream bounces". I was always somewhat freaked out about my "going in and not dying" dreams. I was afraid that it meant I didn't have a healthy understanding (read as: fear) of what I was doing and the risks I was taking. I saw it as my subconscious kidding itself and saying "don't worry, even if something goes wrong, you'll still be OK." So I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this type of dream. Knowing now that I'm not the only one, I would probably classify it as the skydiver's version of "Death Humor" that I see from time to time as an EMT. Sometimes you just have to joke about stuff (in the proper forum) as a defense mechanism to what you see on a bad call. So I guess these dreams are just our mind's blowing off some stress that accumulates as we deal with the risk of our sport. Good stuff. Keep on dreaming, kids.
