Skydive Magazine January Editorial

Recommended Posts

Not taking away anything from the swoopers, but from a spectators point of view (especially non-skydiving), they want to see a gentle, soft, stand up landing.
qouted from the editorial
"To use the gymnastics analogy again, a competitor who does a terrific routine on the bars, but stumbles on the dismount doesn't leave the spectators-or the judges-with a good impression"

How do ya like it Johnny?

I think the same applies to Classic Accuracy.I think there should be bonus points for standing it up.After all it would show more skill to hit the target and stand up the landing.

And "Clasic Style" would be faster if you weren't
wearing a rig..but like stand-ups on a 5 cm. disk.
...unpractical ;)

They already have a "stand up" rule in BASE accuracy competitions.
If any part of your body - except feet - touches the ground, you are awarded penalty meters.
Their goal is to encourage smooth, stabilized, flared approaches, to minimize injuries.

I have not read it yet, but if it is saying that swoopers need to stand up after a swoop, I agree.

I have been saying for years that a swooper that rips up the pond but falls flat on his face has just lost all cool points IMO.

I agree with you Ron. I noticed that (falling down) at WFFC this year. I was not all impressed with the pond swooping when they all get to fall down. I was much more impressed when they stood up afterwards.

I agree, however many non skydiving spectators will WANT to see carnage. Many of the acctually hope that someone crashes and burns:S
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)
