AggieDave 6 #2 January 4, 2005 That would depend on the commitment level of the team, the level of competition, the goals of the team and the finacial situation of the team members...sort of a loaded question.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." happythoughts 0 #3 January 4, 2005 Your level of committment should be decided up front and agreed upon by everyone. It is just one of many questions that need the same answers from all teammates. Before you start, define everything and then make sure that everyone is able to commit to that plan. - How often to train. - Finances. All this stuff costs lots of money. Add it up before starting. - End date. Be a team until a specified date and then have a sit-down dinner and review. - Type of training. Coaches, tunnel time. - Intensity. Competitions? How many? Travel?
blazetailman 0 #4 January 4, 2005 Talk out all the particulars about goals and such first. then as a guideline: I think for a first time team 2-3 weekends a month is probably a lot. But you will have a great time doing it. plan for 8-10 jumps. I think for weekend teams 8-10 is the max jumps you should plan for a day. Past that your training will go down hill from fatigue. That should give you around 200+ jumps before a the end of the season. Getting a coach early in the season would aslo be very valuable. they can give a lot of advice on team dynamics which is probably the biggest factor for how much you are going to enjoy training. Talk about expectations of the team and adjust as neede. 3 weekends might be too much with other obligations, then cut it back. Maybe you are only doing 6-8 jumps a day. Fine maximize them then and make every jump coung.www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

DrewGPM 0 #6 January 5, 2005 The more you train, the better you get. But since 4-way is a team sport, you have to keep a team together. As someone else said, it all depends on the level of commitment your TEAM has. Some common training measures are a) One weekend per month, b) every other saturday and c) every Sunday. For a new team, any of those should work. But Make sure eveeryone agrees to it. I prefer to train every 6 jump every Saturday. My team agreed to train just one saturday last season, four jumps. So we competed in the meets with no training. We had fun, but didn't learn as much as I wanted. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new team this year. Cost is big factor, especially with jump prices at $20! Video with a good debrief and/or coaching are well worth the expense. If your team is serious about becoming better skydivers, factor those cost in to you equation. If you get lucky, you can find a camera person who jump with you for free...but generally expect to pay for his/her slot. If you can't get free video, make fewer jumps and spend more time on the creepers...creeping free! You'd be amazed at how much time the good teams spend on the creepers. You might get more team info from the Relative Work forum.
rehmwa 2 #7 January 5, 2005 QuoteHow much do you think teams should practice together in a months time? Start at 23 days each month - between 5 and 10 jumps a day. If that's not enough, move up from there. ... One big weekend per month is better than two Saturdays or two Sundays. I learned this from my first 4-way mentor.
