pa2themd 0 #1 January 6, 2005 We drove 2100.00 km one way so 4200km return through two countries to get to the Desert Boogie in Namibia Southern Africa and boy was it worth it! I am interested to know how far you have driven. Flying is very expensive R 4500.00 for a return ticket (USD 900.00) where as driving cost us R 1000.00 (USD 110.00) I would recommend this boogie to any one especially those experiencing Winter in the Norhtern Hemisphere. The weather is great, the people even better, the jumps are wicked and the country is very beautiful and not expensive at all!! If you would like more infor on the boogie which will be held in December 2005, you are welcome to PM me "Most of us can read the writing on the wall; we just assume it's addressed to someone else!" Travman 6 #2 January 6, 2005 Longest I've driven is just over 2 hours. But the boogie was at my home dropzone, so it was the same drive I do every weekend. But a few people were driving to nationals, which at a guess was about 8 hours or so... Bob.dino would know exactly

CanuckInUSA 0 #8 January 6, 2005 Quote 18hr drive to Eloy from TX. That was a loooong trip. My travel time from Denver to Eloy is only a mere 15 hours one way. But I've done it three years in a row now. I also drove to Rantoul one year (about 15 hours if I remember correctly) and have been up to the bridge in Twin Falls Idaho 7 times since Memorial Day 2004 (a 10 hour drive each way). Plus another 5 trips to Moab (6 hours each way). But that is the price in driving that I am willing to pay for 58 of my 60 BASE jumps to date, which are legal sites. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
darkwing 5 #9 January 6, 2005 You are all lightweights. This past summer I drove 4,000 km one way to Lost Prairie, Montana, from Charleston, South Carolina. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Deuce 1 #11 January 6, 2005 Eloy is about 800 miles from my house, about 12 hours. I like the drive, but I need to learn to stop and stretch more. I tend to drive it straight through.
Snowbird 0 #12 January 6, 2005 Last year we drove to Eloy. 32 hours each way. We drove almost non-stop, split the time between three of us, slept in the car on the move. Not nearly as painful as it sounds. It was nice to be mobile while we were there, went to Tuscon and Grand Canyon and Casa Grande National Monument. Great trip! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

SkymonkeyONE 4 #16 January 6, 2005 I pull my camper to Rantoul, IL every year from North Carolina; it takes me 20 hours (driving). I drive to various places in Florida at least ten times per year; that's between six and fourteen hours driving depending on where I am going. MWGemini 0 #20 January 7, 2005 The longest/furthest I've ever driven to jump (not a boogie) was about 8-9 hours/600 miles. The longest I've ever driven straight was in the military. We were in a convoy for something like 28 hours if I recall correctly. That was a long day... Mike
cheneyneel 0 #21 January 7, 2005 I have driven 14 hours for a boogie before.. I actually did two 10 hours and two 12 hour trips this past year.. At the last minute it sometimes is just easier and cheaper to drive than fly..

Levin 0 #24 January 7, 2005 Ramon and I drove 18 hours from Houston to SummerFest in 2001. We were going to go in Ramon's car but it broke at the last minute so we took mine instead. I forgot to inform him until we were pulling out of the driveway that my ac didn't work. By the time we got to Illinois we were shouting at each other because the wind noise with the windows down all the way made us kinda deaf. Brits17, Zennie and I drove 18 hours to Bridge Day in 2002. On the way back Ted and I fell asleep with Brit driving. While we were asleep Brit missed the exit for I20. We had to backroad thru Mississippi to get back to the Interstate. Why fly when you can drive. Part of going on a trip is about seeing the country.
bluesky1977 0 #25 January 7, 2005 I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. So my adopted home is Eloy Arizona.
