Jump suit questions !!

Recommended Posts

In the January Skydiving magazine on page 3 is a pic of a guy in yellow. How hard is it to fly like that? Whats the downside for a 200 pound dense body type guy? If the suits are skin tight around the arms anyway, why have fabric on your arms? it looks like a kick ass way to go in the summer heat. Reason i ask is I've never jumped with out a baggy suit. thanx in advance. wally

Haven't seen the picture, but if it's a CRW-style jumpsuit, then it's not hard to fly at all. It's somewhat similar to flying in a T-shirt and Pantz (the birdsuit type) and that's not much different from flying a regular jumpsuit - at least, when you're not tracking.

1. protection (same reason people wear gloves)
2. drag reduction (hairy arms create a lot of drag compared to a tight suit)
(or)
3. drag increase. Some suits (like my bigway suit) have extra fabric in the armpit for more drag when your arms are out.
4. so there's a place to put grippers.

But there's no reason your arm needs to be covered, and there's no reason you can't get a 'shorty' suit with grippers down the upper sleeves (the sleeves stop at the elbow, like a slightly longer sleeved T-shirt.)
