LawnDart21 0 #1 February 15, 2005 I am heading to Orlando in two weeks and am bringing a tandem container, which I am sure I will not be able to carry on. I'm just wondering if anyone has checked one into baggage and had any trouble with TSA or tampering by baggage handlers? -- My other ride is a RESERVE. bodypilot1 0 #2 February 15, 2005 TSA doesn't know much about sport rigs, so how would they even know it's a tandem rig? You should be fine. Just remember to tell them clearly what you are putting on the belt before it goes through Xray. PhreeZone 20 #3 February 15, 2005 You will probally have to gateside check it. When I was flying over the weekend at least American was starting to check the size of the bags again before they were allowed to be used as a carry on. If it would'nt fit into the little metal box beside the desk it had to be gate checked. TSA is a joke as I learned this weekend... but thats a whole another issue. LawnDart21 0 #4 February 15, 2005 Yeah, I figured there is zero chance of bringing it as a carry on given its size, so I am going to pack it in a suitcase, I am just nervous about the TSA people poking around it after I've checked it. I'm going to get to the airport super early and find a supervisor to do the inspection with me present before it's checked.
PhreeZone 20 #5 February 15, 2005 You don't need to ask for a supervisor, the TSA is pretty up to speed in my experiences if you carry it on. The issue will be that you have to lug it around until you board, then ramp/gate check it. Then you have to wait for it at the stairs once you land and haul it back through the airport. Its nothing different then taking something like a Backpack as a carryone and ramp checking it. Make sure you've got wheels on the suitcase unless your gate is the one closest to the TSA checkpoints Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
egons 0 #6 February 15, 2005 Don't stress - I do it all the time with all of my travels. Never have lost a thing to date and nothing has been tampered with. Maybe I have just been lucky! Jimbo 0 #7 February 15, 2005 Quotethe TSA is pretty up to speed in my experiences if you carry it on. Not everywhere, they're not. I met a jumper in Puerto Rico who had to spend his first hour or so on the airport having his reserve repacked. The TSA insisted that it be opened and then proclaimed that they had no idea what it was that they were looking at. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Andrewwhyte 1 #8 February 16, 2005 I checked one in Vancouver-O'hare-JAX on United/United regional last month. No problem.
GravityGirl 0 #9 February 16, 2005 QuoteTSA doesn't know much about sport rigs, so how would they even know it's a tandem rig? Supposedly it's part of their briefing on acceptable items now. So they SHOULD know what a skydiving rig is. Haven't flown with a Tandem rig yet. But have flown FREQUENTLY with checked sport skydiving rigs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies!
