Should have been in Incidents, but....

Recommended Posts

Hey people, when someone is by the Otter door trying to get it raised, please do NOT try to help if you don't know where his/her hands/fingers are, or if he / she doesn't realize you are there "helping"

I had a thumb smash today as I was raising the door at SPX. Some kind soul apparently was trying to help, all the while not paying attention to whose fingers might get SMASHED if they gave an assist on raising the door. I was cognizant of where my fingers were, but I didn't realize someone was about to move the door from behind me. When the red light comes on we still have plenty O' time!!!! Might lose a thumbnail. >:(

When you open the door, you need to wath the door as it moves to the open position to prevent hitting someone or dislodging a pin with the door. If you had been watching the door, you would have seen the other jumper grabbing the door. I have seen more than one person throw open the door without ever calling door or looking behind them to clear the door and drilling someone with the door. People are going to get their fingers smashed (especially on King Airs) by the door or hit by the door if the person opening the door doesn't look and clear the path of the door.

Sorry about your thumb.

Derek

Yeah, I'll accept partial blame. I'm used to sitting up front with tandems and not doing "door duty."

My helper was beside me, and we struggled a bit with it. Then some kind soul, unknown to me, came behind us and assisted by pulling on the part that was already overhead.

It's not as bad as it could have been!
