WFFC 1 #2 April 2, 2005 It depends on how the customs papers are filled out. When shipping overseas, the recipient is responsible for any fees - it's on the custom forms as to who is responsible. edit to clarify - on the customs forms you specify who is responsible...----- ~~~Michael
FFAddict 0 #3 April 2, 2005 You will have to pay tax regardles of price if it is being sent over to the uk (post, courier...) it think you have to pay 20%, but that may have changed. On second hand stuff the amount of tax you have to pay is calculated from the price you pay for the goods (as you would expect!). But in practice they only know how much you have paid because the seller will have to fill out the amount when they send it. So if you know them (as in its not a shop) you can get them to fill out a lesser value and as such you pay less tax. But you must remember that this amountr is also used for insurance purposes so if anything goes wrong in transit you wont get all your money back Edit: just to add if you get sombody to bring it over with them they can just say its there and they are going to be jumping and you pay no tax. Im sure you realise this already but i thought i would state the obvious to be sure
Feeblemind 1 #4 April 2, 2005 I had a RC Helicopter Canopy sent to Canada for custom paint. The paint shop advised that when I sent the item to send it as "Item for repair". Repairs are not taxable. I did this and we were able to avoid the taxes. Good Luck Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
sparko 0 #5 April 2, 2005 Also if it's a gift you don't have to pay tax on it, so if you ask the person sending it really nicely they might be kind, and mark it as a gift.
Squeak 17 #6 April 3, 2005 if it's a used rig why not have it shipped back as personal goods, and fill in the ammount value for insurance purposes only. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

You might just get lucky. I've ordered stuff direct from Square 1 and Performance Designs and both times I have not paid any duty when it arrived in the UK. I don't know whether this is because the value was relatively low or because I was lucky but I expected to pay duty and certainly didn't ask either vendor to lie on the customs declaration. I checked the postage frank on the package received this morning and it says 'customs cleared Mount Pleasant sorting Office' so someone in London has seen it and let me get away without paying tax!
