Viking 0 #1 April 1, 2005 Ok i'm gonna be getting into alot of tracking jumps this year to really get ready for birdman (long way off) and I started thinking............I really don't know what part of my body to move to get where i want to be. I know about the really easy ones like legs out for forward drive cupping your body to vertically pop up, arching to come back down. The ones i'm wondering about are these Bringing your arms from your sides out away from your body. Moving your arms down below your waist. Rotating or dipping your shoulders to one direction. Spreading your legs or bringing them together. Moving your arm+leg on one side out while keeping the other side still. Bringing one arm or leg higher than the other. I can't think of any more but if you know other movements please post it and what it makes you do in the air. basehoundsam 0 #2 April 1, 2005 Buy a PF Tracking Suit....... and do lots and lots of two way and three way tracking dives....I guarantee it to be the fastest/safest way to get into wingsuit flight. Squeak 17 #4 April 1, 2005 Quote[off topic] I musta missed the conclusion to your other thread a little while back... good to hear you're not leaving the sport! I was thinking the same thingArthur you can work this all out (or most of it) for yourself, just picture what the wind will do to any given part of your body. If you push one arm out to the side will it creat more or less drag?, once you work that out, you can predict what will happen. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

Tonto 1 #7 April 1, 2005 Quotethe only thing thats keeping me in the sport the desire to jump a wingsuit. Tomorrow I do a 1st flight course with a dude with 301 skydives. (In South Africa you need 300 dives in 2 years and a waiver from National Safety and training.) Taya will do dive no 2 with him while I do outside camera. His 1st jump was done to get him to wingsuits. I waited nearly 4000 dives before I did my 1st one. I INSTANTLY tossed my Tandem rating to get the time to do more. It's well worth the wait. tIt's the year of the Pig.
Zenister 0 #8 April 1, 2005 T is right, you are thinking to much about it...you've already got the frame for it so just go jump..but if your trying to focus on tracking jump with people who are really going to TRACK! as opposed to the 'forward motion RW' that many tracking dives become.. 2 and 3 ways are better than larger dives for this... in addition while the sensations are similar, the body position for Birdman jumps is particular to wingsuits (and perhaps particular to each suit type) i'd tend to say that while flying wingsuits really helps your track (learning small refinements) tracking dives dont do as much to help your wingsuit... a few general bits.. rolling your shoulders forward 'cups' more air with your chest = better track vs rolling shoulders back to create an arch = dive arms out slightly/legs spread slightly can help your track (in both lift and forward motion) as it effectively increases your surface area (air doesnt flow between your legs/arms and body if they are only slightly out and so creates a larger 'wing') spread wide is a good way to slow forward motion without giving up to much of an idea shape (and so losing altitude) crab track (legs tucked in) is a more extreme way to slow... generally the 'more rigid' your body is the faster you track (as long as you are not so tense you cant control your heading/atitude effectively) i'm not sure thats true in birdman... there are LOTS of ways to do most things in a track.. what is most 'efficient' seems to vary depending on the person and individual body shape...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. AndyMan 7 #9 April 1, 2005 Quote You're thinking too much. Just go jump! (Oh. And welcome back![Wink]) What he said. Directional control while tracking will come instinctively. It really is no big deal. Just go jump. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Viking 0 #10 April 6, 2005 wouldn't you agree that it would be awsome for beginners to find a thread that lays it all out how to move your body istead of having to figure it out by yourself?I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
AndyMan 7 #11 April 6, 2005 You can't learn everything by reading. Sometimes you need to just go out and pretend you're wearing a pair of Nike shoes. Just do it.. The fact is that you already have all the skills you need to acheive directional control while tracking. Go and try, and enjoy the EUREKA! moment when you figure it all out. It's the best part of learning new things. If you've already tried and are struggling, then we can probably come up with some good advice to help. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
