Well, while 400 jumps may seem a drop in the bucket to some,

I find my 1600 skydives simply a drop in the bucket. Every year I realize more and more that I have so much to still learn. So yes, 400 jumps is a drop in the bucket to me.

but just because someone doesn't meet your jump number standard doesn't necessarily mean that they need to be flying a boat, either.

I agree. I think what differs is what we consider a 'boat'. Personally I don't consider anything under a 150 a boat, but that's my opinion. Of course that doesn't mean I think everyone should be flying a 150 or bigger either but I do believe that, particularly light woman, are given false impressions that a 120 or smaller is ok cause 'it's only loaded 1:1'. The reality is that it's still only a small amount of fabric regardless of the loading.

I'm guessing for one that you would not sell me the canopy I currently own.

No need to guess, we already both know how I feel. You already know I think you're jumping way too small a canopy for both your experience and your currency. Fortunately we've spent time together so I know you realize I'm not some demon hiding behind a keyboard but rather someone who genuinely cares about his fellow skydivers, even if they don't agree with his safety standpoints. :)

But, I just wanted to make the point that just because you don't think someone is qualified, doesn't necessarily mean that is the case.

Absolutely true. Conversely, simply because someone else thinks you're qualified doesn't mean you really are either ;)

I believe I can put a person under something way too small for them. If I could control the conditions and something unexpected would never come their way they'd be just fine. Where that theory starts to fail is the introduction of the unexpected. It doesn't have to be anything drastic either, simply not being where you expected (caught napping) is all it takes to do something silly. Everyone's capable of this mistake. I believe that experience is then the biggest determining factor on the outcome. Experience is something that cannot be taught, so in my mind, there's no way around it.

Not taken too harshly at all.

Nope, you know me - I just say it like I see it. If I ever come to the conclusion that I am incorrect, I'll be the first to admit it. I just don't believe I'm wrong on this one :P

Of course this is straying from the original thread, so to get it back on track: I feel, regardless of your standpoint on WHAT #'s to pay attention to, its important to look out for your fellow skydivers. Selling something simply for the dollars is not something I can do in good faith. I hope my friends are the same way. We can argue the actual numbers all night long, what matters more is the concern and genuine interest for our fellow well being.

Ok, then to keep on topic I think that is a nice way to look at things:) Maybe one day i'll feel a little more ethical about it, too, as my views often change. :)
pm soon to say hi, hope to see you all soon.:)-A
