The nerves!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm off to make my first jump in over a year. I'm excited, I'm scared of that first step out of the Porter, I've been doing a dive in my mind for about the last three days, trying to remember the feelings, lots of stuff going on in my head right now.
Has anyone else gone through this?
I keep trying to review the stuff from the SIM, when to open, when to make my turns on final, wind conditions, clouds, spotting, etc.
What a neat feeling!
When I'm back, I'll try to post here again to share my newbieness with you all. :D

I went nearly one year, and what I found helpful was doing a tunnel session before my AFF-6 recurrency jump. I did the tunnel at Perris, then drove over for the jump to Elsinore.

As fun as the tunnel was, there is never anything like that door opening on jump run. But just like others have said, arch, relax, have fun! I dearched on the floater exit a bit, flipped onto my back, but recovered quickly. When I started a slow spin, I told myself I just did fine in the tunnel, what am I doing differently? I fixed it, the jump went fine.

It was so much fun to get back in the air again....let us know how your jump was!!

Freaking wind!!! It was just a bit too windy to allow students to jump. On the plus side, though, I got several hours of refresher courses (Mike, you da man) so the next time I'm there, which will be in about four or five days, it's go time.
As long as Ma Nature plays nice.
So today was a bust for jumping, but I'm glad as all get out that I went.
I should have done a tandem, at least I would have been able to feel the wind again.
I'm trying to find even a little part of me that's mad, but you know, I'm overall very happy with the day. I got more training, which is always a good thing, I saw some buds, and yay for my DZ for keeping my frail body safe. :)

Bummer to hear you didn't jump, Mike.
I'm very surprised at how sore I am right now from practicing my arch. Wow do I need to start exercising again. My neck is killing me. So a bit of exercise sounds good (sort of), and maybe I won't have to jump the 260 if I can drop a few pounds. :S

After such a long time off and/or low jumps, make rehearsal and visualization of your emergency procedures your priority. Go through the required steps not only in your mind, but practice moving your hand(s) towards the cutaway, - and in your mind make sure your cutaway cables have completely cleared so that both risers sucessfully release. Practice then going for your reserve. See this happening as you go through the motions so your mind and body know how to do it automatically.
