skybytch 273 #16 May 10, 2005 QuoteThere *is* life beyond skydiving. Yeah, there is, but y'know what? I wouldn't trade those years of being on the dz every weekend, rain or shine, jumping or not, for a million dollars. I kinda miss that total obsession with all thing skydiving, having that "gotta jump and if I can't jump, gotta be around jumpers" feeling all the time. Few people who stay in the sport over the long term remain that obsessed - the whole "balance" thing. But I don't think it's a bad thing for anyone - especially newbies - to spend the whole weekend, every weekend, at the dz. You learn more about jumping at the dz than you do anyplace else, and this sport requires constant learning if you plan to stick with it. Back to the original question - if I'm not at a dz on a weekend I'll probably be found doing laundry, walking the dog, playing games on the 'puter, reading, on a road trip, doin' the nasty and/or having a cocktail (or two). Jeth 0 #17 May 10, 2005 Sometimes I wish I was at the dz every weekend. Then I'd be jumping like crazy, meeting more people, and learning more stuff! But I do enjoy many other things in my life, so I do not want to get too obsessed with just skydiving. When I'm not at the dz on the weekend I am.... movies/dinner out with my husband, at the park with my dogs, doing house stuff, doing my homework, on vacation somewhere, riding my bike, on my pc, catching up on Tivo recordings, or catching up on my sleep!!"At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." Reginald 0 #18 May 10, 2005 On the rare occasion the weather is so bad I don’t even go the DZ in hopes of getting a few jumps in, I sit on my couch and watch TV, like I did before I started skydiving, and complain and mope. Just a side note, there are rarely any weekends that are so bad that I can’t get a few jumps in, if I’m there all weekend. Good thing I don't have an addictive personality. kai2k1 0 #19 May 10, 2005 hang out with family, fish, camp, shoot guns, ride 4-wheelers, cook, go to races, car shows, go paintballing, zoos, art museums, get lost in the country... nael 0 #21 May 11, 2005 There's lots of stuff to do on weekends. If I'm not jumping I go bush walking, indoor rock climbing (too scared to go outdoors yet!), walk my dogs, go on a picnic, lunch with wuffo friends, big nights at clubs with the following day spent recovering, sometimes I work on weekends for some extra money and soon I am doing a scuba diving course. When I first started jumping I wanted to be at the dz every weekend, but now I am happy doing other things, as long as I get to jump pretty often (every 2 weeks or so), although I havent jumped in over a month now. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
