Ron 10 #1 May 20, 2005 There is a post on here about bogus riggers.... Well I personlly feel thats just wrong as hell, but my question is this. Should you list ratings you HAD? For example, this year I let my SL "I" go....It is very hard to do SL in FL. But I had the rating, used it for 9 years. I also am thinking of dropping my PRO. Since I have not done a demo in a few years (I have kept it current by doing the jumps for an S&TA)...But since I have not done enough Demos....I see no need to keep the rating since if I decide to do Demo's again, I will have to train up quite a bit before I am ready for it...And getting the PRO back should be easy if I am really ready to do a live demo again. But am I wrong for having it listed? I had them, I used them. Its not like the knowledge dissapeared when I didn't send in my money to the USPA. So, should a person list an expired rating? Some never expire (riggers, pilots tickets....ect) but what about the ones that do?"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
Tonto 1 #2 May 20, 2005 I let my SL I go this year too, as well as my SL JM. Last year I let my tandem rating go. I still have mine listed. Why? I was a SL JM for 18 years. I gained some experience in that time, like dispatching students safely from 2 aircraft emergencies. I was a Tandem Instructor for 12 years, had 8 Tandem cutaways and one Tandem reserve malfunction. I feel that some of these things don't happen every day - and it would be a shame not to be allowed to give input. My PASA card still lists my ratings, but places a "U" at the end of the number. I'll learn from anyone I can, rated or not, current or not, more or less experienced than I am. tIt's the year of the Pig.
Kris 0 #3 May 20, 2005 That's a very good question, Ron. I was an IAD-I for a little over 3 years, but for various reasons I decided to not renew my rating this month. While I certainly haven't lost what I've learned, I decided to remove it from my profile as I no longer have that rating. If I want to chime in on something related to that rating, I still will.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
BillyVance 35 #4 May 20, 2005 I'd say go ahead and keep listing the ratings whether they're current or uncurrent. If they've lapsed, list the years they were current..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
bbarnhouse 0 #5 May 20, 2005 When looking up memberships through USPA it lists ratings held. If they have expired then it lists the date of expiration.
wmw999 2,641 #6 May 20, 2005 I don't list mine. They expired a long time ago, though. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. skybytch 273 #7 May 20, 2005 I used to have my expired SL I and tandem ratings in my profile. I removed them awhile back - primarily because the student program(s) have changed since I threw bodies out of the airplane. I still have knowledge but it's not current. Should someone question my credibility in answering a static line or tandem related question I can always say that I used to have the ratings. Didn't remove my rigging rating - although I don't actively rig. I try to not post on threads discussing technical rigging questions; my expertise is (was, since I'm no longer selling gear) in choosing equipment, not packing and maintaining it. riggerrob 644 #8 May 20, 2005 What about DZOs who have all the ratings, but are too busy flying jump planes to teach or rig?
Ron 10 #9 May 20, 2005 QuoteWhat about DZOs who have all the ratings, but are too busy flying jump planes to teach or rig? Well, if they are too busy to teach then they will not be able to keep the ratings right? I for one think that if you had the ratings you should list them....I do think it would be great to be able to say they are expired, or uncurrent. The fact I don't plan on keeping my PRO does not mean I did not earn it or do over a 100 live Demos. It just means I can't do one now. skybytch 273 #10 May 20, 2005 QuoteI do think it would be great to be able to say they are expired, or uncurrent. I agree. I'd put my instructional ratings back up if I could specify that they were expired - even better if I could specify when they expired.
