Remster 30 #27 May 18, 2005 QuoteWhat's this painted red line stuff? In most tailgate planes, there is a line where you cant have more then x skydivers behind it. Its to limit the weight in the rear section of the plane to avoid stalls. Typically, it 8 to 10 jumpers max depending on the plane.Remster
peacefuljeffrey 0 #28 May 18, 2005 Has this actually occurred?? I would have imagined that the airplane would still have some momentum to get it at least a little bit ahead of the jumpers... I fly and I understand stalls, but I have not heard of any that actually caused a plane to do a sort of retrograde slide... However, one thing I can imagine would be a spin, not just a stall, which might send the airplane into its stall/spin recovery back toward, or under, or on top of the jumpers. I don't fly Skyvans (I should be so blessed) but I would think there's no guarantee that the stall will not break to one side or the other, causing this sort of situation. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... AndyMan 7 #30 May 18, 2005 It happened at Skydive Chicago years ago. Somebody who's been around longer than I can tell the story. Roger Nelson was the pilot, and he used to love telling the story. I don't think it's actually killed anyone. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

peacefuljeffrey 0 #33 May 18, 2005 Yeah, but I meant has it happened that a Skyvan/Casa has plowed through a field of skydivers in freefall after stalling and dumping them out? That's a horrifying thought. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
tbrown 26 #34 May 19, 2005 I'll go up and jump out of almost anything, but I sure do love Skyvans. They're just so much more fun. Noisy though... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
PhreeZone 20 #35 May 19, 2005 Never came close to plowing into jumpers When it happened at a midwest boogie years ago out of the Casa the jumpers even managed to make some of a formation. The plane would have to do a retroslide at well into 75 knots to catch back up to the jumpers that were tossed out the door.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Remster 30 #40 May 20, 2005 Quotelarge RW exits Actually, you can launch a bigger chunck out of an Otter. There have been some 20 to 22 ways launched from an otter a couple years ago (Zhills if I remember right). Yes, thats a linked 22 way.Remster
