homer 0 #1 June 19, 2005 I'm looking to sell and buy some used gear but not sure how to determine what my old gear is worth or what I should pay for used gear. Is there a standard price deduction for for gear like age, # of jumps and condition. I have a student who wants to buy some of my old gear but I don't know what I should sell it for. I don't want to charge him to much as well as I don't want to just give it away. I'm also getting a used container for CRW but not sure how much I should offer for the container. tso-d_chris 0 #2 June 19, 2005 Demand for used gear is what dictates its value. I can't keep large, used ZP mains in stock, while smaller stuff can be very difficult to sell. Everyone starts as a student, and has a need for larger canopies, but not everyone will downsize to small stuff.
homer 0 #3 June 19, 2005 Ok, I understand supply and demand but I want to get my moneys worth with the gear I'm selling but not over charge someone. The same goes for the container I'm looking to buy I don't want to pay to much. How much does a canopy and container depreciate. I know every jump on a canopy drops the price and a container will lose value over time even if it isn't used. Is there a standard depreciation for gears value over time. PhreeZone 20 #4 June 19, 2005 There is no standerd. Your best bet is to talk to a gear dealer and ask them their going prices for specific gear. Establish a good relationship with one and they will help you on future used gear purchasing and you can thank them by making purchases from them. You need to have gear inspected and instead of sending it to your rigger, use the gear shop as the middle party for sales and purchases. The fee is nominal and you get the confidence of using a large name that all parties trust.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
darkwing 5 #5 June 20, 2005 Look at on-line sources for used gear, and you should get a good idea. Remember, it is a lot easier to go down from your asking price, than it is to go up! -- Jeff My Skydiving History
riggerrob 643 #6 June 20, 2005 Yes, browse e-bay and the classified ads on dz.com to see what other people are asking for similar used gear. Calculating prices based on number of jumps is very difficult, because gear wears out far faster in the desert than it does in pastures. For example, a rig with 1,000 jumps in the desert, dragged through the cacti and left to bake in the sun may be junk, but the same rig lovingly cared for in Wisconsin may be good for 4,000 jumps. tso-d_chris 0 #7 June 20, 2005 There are a lot of factors to consider. How old is the gear? How many jumps? Location? How new are the lines? Is the same model still available new? What size is the gear? When it comes to containers, it gets even tougher to sell used equipment. The design changes are far more rapid with the container, so age, regardless of jump numbers will have a major affect. Also harnesses are custom built, which limits potential market even further. I wish I had a nice formula, but I don't. For Great Deals on Gear
GravityGirl 0 #8 June 21, 2005 What do you have and what are you looking at? I can at least tell you what is fair in my neck of the woods. I make it my business to be fair to both buyer and seller, earning two new customers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! homer 0 #9 June 21, 2005 QuoteWhat do you have and what are you looking at? I'm looking to sell a javelin J4 that was make made in the later 90's (I know specific date would help) along with a tempo 210 with 1 ride that was made about 2001. I'm looking to sell this to a new jumper and do not want to over charge him. I'm looking to buy a Centaurus for CRW made in June of 2000 that has been in storage. It has at least 1 jump on it to test a CRW canopy. The seller is asking me to make an offer and I have no idea what to offer.
