goose491 0 #1 June 21, 2005 Hello All, We are having a little Speed Skydiving contest this weekend at my DZ and I'm looking to pick your collective brains for pointers. I've never done a speed skydive. From top to bottom, can you please provide a description of best exit, best way off the hill, body position, control surfaces.... you name it! All info is appreciated. Thanks, Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

madscape 0 #6 June 21, 2005 Cover your entire body in Crisco. It's slippery, and the air will move faster over you...

Amazon 7 #8 June 21, 2005 Go here and check out the rules button http://www.hangout.no/speednews/ Exit position is different for everyone.. think of going out of the plane like dropping a bomb.. I try to come off the hill so that I am travelling 90 degrees to line of flight so I do not get under another group. The dive for me is like a no lift track.. eyes on the horizon and balance on your head. I would suggest full face helmet and a couple protracks/ Prodytters in the helmet... since you are looking at the horizon going very fast you do not want to lose altitude awareness. From 13500 a Speed dive will be about 40 seconds. For best measurement mount a protrack on the MLW close to center body mass... that way its the same on all compteitors. Inside the helmet it gives false readings...especially if you go a bit unstable.. which you will when you first start out. The measured 1 KM is from 8900 ft and is over at about 5500 ft.. come out of the dive into a track and DO NOT try to go to a normal stable position till you get rid of the speed. You can dislocate things like that. You are talking about some pretty good G's pulling out of the dive. Keep your arms at your side and then bring your hands out in front of you with your upper arms still plastered to your sides.. like speed brakes... once you bleed off the velocity... then you can get big and deploy. I do not mind deploying at about 2500 so that is where my last alarm is set.. and by then I am going slow enough not go blow up a canopy( been there... done that)
