Going to a new DZ

Recommended Posts

Well, ive only been in the sport 1 year now and ready to go hit up a big DZ in the state. Live in Northern Calif and have some pretty big DZ's within a 100sm radius of me. My local DZ doesn't jump much because its a smaller atmosphere, typically weekends in which Im usually working but I work at the airport so I can usually squeze off a jump during lunch.
All the local fun jumpers are tough to get a hold of and we all have wierd schedules.
I don't really feel the most comfortable transitioning to a new DZ in which I know no one. Anyone know of a good DZ in NORCAL that isn't so clique and wont give me a load of crap for showing up. Ive just heard some bad things about the NORCAL big DZ's. Don't want to be a BITCH but I don't want to go somewhere that Im not welcome.

I suggest you go out to The American Boogie in Davis this weekend. Since it is a boogie, there will be a lot of new people there and I'm sure they will be organizing jumps. I went a couple of years ago and had a great time.

I say ignore the reputations and go check out all the DZs in the area. Be friendly and outgoing, introduce yourself to folks, ask who the load organizers are, and get on some jumps. Bring beer, stick around after hours, and get to know people. See which one (or ones) fit with your personality.

I recently got back from a road trip during which I visited six different DZs, three of which were in Northern California. They all had different vibes, but I had a great time and was able to meet a lot of folks everywhere.

He's right. I did feel the Byron love. It was a little hard to wash off, though, since they don't have running water. :P

Yeah... :S the running water thing is the only downfall.... but we are a friendly bunch... besides, more pictures for me to take in the landing area... You have a colorful canopy? :).. then I suggest you come to Byron if you don't mind being a little dirty till you get home for that well deserved shower.. :P:)

What have people been telling you?

I've been every dropzone we have, outside of Cloverdale. All are welcoming, some are inclusive as well. But you have to make the first step.

Come feel the love in Byron. We'll make you feel at home.

I was about to suggest the same place. really cool people there and hang out with ChopChop for a little bit, he'll take care of you. And by the Chop I'm coming to the Byron Boogie this year so we need to get that hybrid completed this time. Look forward to seeing you guys again.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
