huka551 0 #1 June 28, 2005 I made my first jump since I did tandems without my double lined baggy jumpsuit, and I felt like I was naked! I see lots of jumpers go in shorts or don't wear a helmet, what do you wear? Muff Brother 3723
AggieDave 6 #2 June 28, 2005 It depends on the jump. I'll wear a jumpsuit if its a jump that needs one. Quite often in summer in TX I'll do quite a few jumps in just shorts and a t-shirt. Usually I wear a helmet, but not always. I tend to always wear shoes, I used to jump barefoot all the time, but learned it wasn't too wise. About the only thing that's a given for me to wear on a skydive is my rig or a rig of some sort. I've jumped sans alti, sans clothing, sans helmet or goggles, etc. Do what makes you happy, but remember to dress for success for the type of skydiving you're doing.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." IanHarrop 42 #3 June 28, 2005 I wear all of that plus an alti on my wrist. I like the chest alti for tracking (an old favorite, I've had it 28 years) and friends like it for RW cause they can see it. My wrist one is what I look at in freefall. Edit to add: I wear a jumpsuit all the time because I have to wear a brace from a skiing accident and I want to reduce snag points - plus I need everything I can so slow me down"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
MarkM 0 #4 June 28, 2005 Jumpsuit - for consistent friction and so no odd piece of clothing covers anything important. Helmet - so I don't rip off an ear due to a riser strike. No ditter / audible alti though.
indyz 1 #5 June 28, 2005 I have to go with "most of the time" for the first three, and "sometimes" for the chest-mount. I almost always wear a jumpsuit, helmet, and dytter unless I'm doing a hop 'n pop, then I rarely do. I wear a chest altimeter when I'm doing CRW or flying a wingsuit, and usually end up just leaving it on for the weekend. I prefer a digital wrist mount, though. sid 1 #6 June 28, 2005 Saturday evening it was 96 degrees and we'd worked our asses off...jumped wearing a rig and shorts - no googles, no alti just a damed rig from 6000 ft. What a way to end the day! Oh yeah - no aad either (never did have one of those new fangled thingies)Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right? bigorangemd 0 #7 June 28, 2005 Depends on what I'm doing. Helmet for RW, nothing if I'm freeflying since I'm just starting and only jump with one other person. Jumpsuit for RW, shorts and T if not. I have a Neptune in my helmet with analog on my wrist for RW, Neptune on my wrist if not.
Squeak 17 #8 June 28, 2005 I wear a jumpsuit cause it make me look like I know what I'm doing (on the ground at least) I wear a helmet for 2 reASONS, 1. tO ENSURE MY GOGGLES (OR SUNNIES) STAY ON 2. wildcard451 0 #9 June 28, 2005 QuoteDepends on what I'm doing. Helmet for RW, nothing if I'm freeflying since I'm just starting and only jump with one other person. I hope I read that wrong. If you are not wearing a helmet for freeflying, even "with just one other person", then that is an incredibly poor decision. Even more so given that you are just starting freeflying. Some of the best freeflyers I know still mess up every now and again, and not to be mean, but neither you nor I fit that category. I'll always wear my helmet freeflying, and I hope you do too. Like I said, I hope I read that wrong.
bob.dino 1 #10 June 28, 2005 Jumpsuit for RW or the little freeflying I've done. Helmet, googles, audible, & wrist-mount too. Whatever I've got on for a hop n pop. I bring an alti as it's required by the Aussie Op Regs, but no goggles.
Dougiefresh 0 #11 June 29, 2005 The only time I don't wear a helmet or jumpsuit is on cross-countries.
