StevePhelps 0 #26 July 15, 2005 I wear Gatorz (radiators) and love them. I can use them with helmet and without. I do have a craokey to help hold them on. BUT, know this ... I bought a smaller style (bat ray, I think) and while looking extremely cool, they allowed more air on my eyes and being a ozone alert day with a lot of brush fires, my eyes were burning. I switched back to my Gatorz radiators and no more tears. So, I suggest Radiators, IMHO.

kallend 2,131 #28 July 15, 2005 Quote Besides, when is the last time you saw any of the hot skydiving teams wear sunglasses while in freefall? These guys have won World and Nationals gold medals, and organized an FAI world record. Aren't they hot enough?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. rehmwa 2 #29 July 15, 2005 1 - eye contact is huge in most of the disciplines - I don't think sunglasses are a good idea if you want to fly near someone else. Suck it up, cupcake - it's not that bad. 2 - Some glasses don't adjust well and are too expensive to adjust, but it's important to be stylish and 'pose' well in front of the other posers, so we have to make the right pair work. Try this: a - preheat the oven to 200 F b - place a piece of cardboard on the rack c - put your head on the cardboard (the cardboard helps you avoid 'grill lines') for about 20 minutes d - now that your skull is nice and pliable, place the sunglassses on your face as you wish to wear them e - mold your face to fit the glasses with a nice smooth contact all around the eyes f - you're ready to go but you might need to refit your helmut at this point per manufacturere instructions, (provided you aren't too cool to wear a helmet) ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
AndyMan 7 #30 July 15, 2005 A good pair of sunglasses are often required for the job. I wear gatorz. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=47776; http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=47780; http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=47777; Don't buy a pair unless you've tried them on first. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Squeak 17 #32 July 17, 2005 QuoteGet a Z1 with the gold competition visor. It massively reduces glare, while still being transparent enough to make eye-contact for 4-way. Can't do it Dave, my specs don't fit under a Z1, I have and Oxgyn (original not A3) that works well, but as far as I know they don't have speccie lenses for themYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! bob.dino 1 #33 July 17, 2005 That's a pity . Might be worth contacting Sky Systems and seeing if they offer anything...
DanglesOZQld 0 #34 July 18, 2005 Have for a very long time now worn Protector sunnies available from one of the big hardware stores here in Oz and used as safety glasses. My passengers wear them as well and never had any problems at all with them. Passengers including those wearing contacts also. Just an old canopy line on the back of them and a spring loaded button to hold them on in freefall. Each to their own but I wouldn't go back to the "oh so lovely split easily, glared by the sun, have to adjust all the time" clears................... BSBD! -Mark. tdog 0 #37 July 18, 2005 Don't do what I did... I took my Oakley's with plastic arms and wrapped my helmet strap (think skateboard helmet with no ears) around the glasses... Worked great for the high pulls I was doing... Second jump I broke the glasses... OOOPS... Beer jump with no eye wear/helmet shield at all... It was just a high pull and I was surprised the 5 second delay did not hurt at all.
jakee 1,584 #38 July 18, 2005 QuoteIt was just a high pull and I was surprised the 5 second delay did not hurt at all. I think some people are affected by the wind less than others. I've done jumps where I've forgotten to pull my goggles over my eyes and its been several thousand feet before I even noticed. If for some reason I found myself at altitude without any goggles It wouldn't bother me at all.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
mdrejhon 8 #39 July 18, 2005 QuoteI am planning on buying a pair of Gatorz and I was wondering if they are ready to wear for jumping or do you need to modify them so you keep as much wind out of your eyes as possible? Also, do Gatorz normally keep the wind out of your eyes, or is it something to get used to. Any help is greatly welcomed..I recently bought a Sorz goggles that doubles as sunglasses itself. I love them, and they were cheap too! I do have to pull them down to my neck during sunset loads after my canopy opens, although they don't darken my vision that much. DanglesOZQld 0 #40 July 19, 2005 Ha ha thanks Squeak!! Bob -I bought them from BUNNINGS which is right next door to where I skydive and they last for a minimum 6 months and cost $11. Very easy to get back on tax also being proper protective gear. The brand is PROTECTOR and they already have two holes in the right spot for an old canopy line (trimmed at the ends to squeeze through) with a spring loaded bobbin(?) not sure what they call it, to secure it in place during the jump. Wouldn't leave home without them lol! Also as stated they are also quite ok for passengers with contact lenses. When the passengers see that mine has the sunnies some get a tad shitty when given the clear "proper skydiving" goggles......... BSBD!! -Mark. "A Scar is just a Tattoo with a story!!!"
