Adriandavies 0 #1 July 16, 2005 Just wondering how many DZ's either have increased ticket prices in the last 3 months or will do shortly as a result of oil price rises? In the UK I've heard that Langar is to raise their price soon and that other DZ's already have done.

bch7773 0 #6 July 18, 2005 I'm wondering how long the price raise per barrel of oil "trickles" down to Av-gas... are we talking a few days, or is there enough Av-gas "in the pipe" so that it takes several months before the price goes up? Eule 0 #7 July 18, 2005 QuoteI'm wondering how long the price raise per barrel of oil "trickles" down to Av-gas... If you're in the US, you might look at http://www.airnav.com . Most of the content there is extracted from the standard FAA information about airports, but it also includes user-reported prices at the various FBOs. Since the prices are user-reported, they can be a little or a lot out of date - each price has a date on it so you can see how old it is. You might look up an airport near you that gets a lot of general aviation traffic, as those will usually have up-to-date fuel prices. There is also a summary report for the whole US at http://www.airnav.com/fuel/report.html . EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face.

Adriandavies 0 #9 July 18, 2005 Nope...I've just heard that they are going up but I haven't taken the time to ask by how much and when.
mr2mk1g 10 #10 July 18, 2005 I think the prices at skydive cark (NWPC) went up 2 weeks ago. I don't remember off hand but it was to somewhere in the mid 20's.(£'s). It's not going to hit me too hard this year as we've got bulk tickets bought at the start of the year... but it will be a huge impact to jumping next year when we're looking at bulk prices... especially if there's prospects of a fall in oil prices making buying in bulk while it's high a bad deal.
xavenger 0 #11 July 18, 2005 Cark in the UK is now £21 per jump ticket. Thats the equivelant of $36 to our American friends!
Dazzle 0 #12 July 18, 2005 At what point will it be time to call uk jumping a day? When we have the tunnels open for the odd fix and Ampuria / Sweden a short plane ride away with lower prices for weekends and the US / Europe for longer trips. The price can only go so high before it gets worthwhile to go elsewhere more often
mr2mk1g 10 #13 July 18, 2005 It's already almost as cheap to take long weekends to empuria as it is to drive to the DZ. If you factor out 100miles of petrol, dz membership, BPA membership, £18 jump tickets against easyjet/ryan air ticket, USPA membership, Spanish jump tickets I bet there wouldn't be that much difference already. I bet there's a combo out there which makes traveling to Spain cheaper for some jumpers.
Adriandavies 0 #14 July 18, 2005 At some point no matter where you live (USA, Spain, Russia) jump ticket prices will have to go up. The price of a barrel is the same everywhere although the amount of tax paid on the finished product varies. As for us Brits rising jump ticket prices will also be followed by the likes of Ryanair putting their fares up to take into account rising fuel prices. At the moment they are saying that their fares haven't increased but I think that it a marketing ploy to try to gain publicity at the expense of BA. I'm guessing but I would imagine that their average fare is a lot higher this year than last purely becuase of teh cost of Jet A
gus 1 #15 July 18, 2005 QuoteAny idea what kind of a figure that DH is moving the jump prices upto? £20 I heard this weekend but that's probably the individual ticket price, I guess it'll be something like £190 for 10. GusOutpatientsOnline.com
droquette 0 #16 July 18, 2005 the tickets at teh WFFC are $21... I think they are that high due to fuel costs.. otherwise it would be $20 or less.... just my $.02 any comments by those in the know?HISPA 72 ----- "Muff Brother" 3733
Snowwhite 0 #17 July 19, 2005 yup, and the cost of traveling goes up for the planes and skydivers alike. I am glad that Perris is bringing a load or two of jumpers with them to help defray costs, and so folks can bring cooler stuff than they would on a commercial flightskydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
cpoxon 0 #18 July 19, 2005 "A short plane ride away"? Would make a great competition, a sort of elongated hit and chug. I live approximately 20 miles from Luton; what with travel to the airport (including parking and transport to terminal), check in, flying time, disembarkation (assuming all you have is hand luggage), travelling to a dropzone (either by picking up a vehicle yourself or via public transport), checking in at the dropzone, buying tickets, manifesting, getting on a load, jumping and landing, I wonder what the minimum time that could be done in, assuming the weather is okay (it can be ropey from Sweden to Spain). To make it worthwhile, it has to be long weekends. On an average UK holiday allowance of 25 days, with other events and commitments, how many long weekends can one seriously do? Also, there is no swooping in tunnels :-( What worries me more, is that once prices rise, they tend not to drop again.Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

BenediktDE 2 #20 July 19, 2005 Go to Belgium: closer, cheaper and nice non-commercial dropzones. As a member (100EUR/year) you pay 17,50EUR for a single Ticket, 16EUR in a block of 11, 15EUR in a block of 100.For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. DanglesOZQld 0 #21 July 19, 2005 It appears as though a lot of dz's are putting their jump prices up by at least $3 in Australia. I used to be able to jump from 14,000 feet for $15 Aussie but that has now changed thanks to our Let going bye byes o/s again. SUX SUX SUX! (Oh and to the Yanks out there who whine about car fuel prices we are now paying about $1.06 a LITRE here which is fairly CHEAP compared to the rest of Australia!) BSBD! -Mark. tkhayes 348 #22 July 19, 2005 We have gone from $18-$19-$20 in less than a year, the largest increases ever at Skydive City. Reason? 100% due to fuel increases, which is now more than double what it was 18 months ago. Thanks George Bush - Oh yea, I feel a whole lot safer too...... peregrinerose 0 #23 July 19, 2005 At the 2 DZs I'm at, one increased the fee by $2, the other has not raised prices at this time. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
darrenspooner 0 #24 July 19, 2005 I guess there's little we can do. Let's not forget that wages go up too, and even at £25 a ticket, if we can afford a rig and maintenance of it, we can afford a ticket too. I feel for the DZ operators. They are trying to run a business and cater for empassioned people that consider compromsing their loyalty because of a couple of quid. If we all get a tandem student to out local DZs (that make a bag load of cash for the DZ) then maybe they'll keep the prices lower.
UntamedDOG 0 #25 July 20, 2005 QuoteLike the larger fuel bill didn't tip them off before? I hope some of these dropzones go out of business. I'm tired of dropzones refusing to absorb the fuel cost increase. Every other type of business has been able to do this sucessfully. It's all lies. Do you think the jumptickets will ever go down once the fuel gets cheap again? Yeah! It hasn't happened yet. Crooks.
